Daily MelWear: Red Leopard

Hi everyone!

A couple of you guessed my self-imposed challenge for the week, although I suppose I didn't make it very difficult. :) My challenge is to attempt to wear pants!

Here's the funny thing: I used to HATE skirts and dresses.  I was too much of a tomboy. Skirts and dresses were way too girly and I didn't like them.

After the past several months of my style evolution, they've become my staple. They're simple, comfortable and it's easy to find ones that are flattering.

Now trying to go back to wearing pants is difficult for me! All of these pants are from YEARS ago. They're all the same silhouette so trying to come up with new looks is no easy task. And I don't find them particularly comfortable.  I think maybe I need to lose a few more pounds for them to fit comfortably again. I'll work on that.

But for now, I'm finding inspiration in other bloggers! This outfit was inspired by Kimberly's post from yesterday. I don't own a leopard print jacket (although now I wish I did!) but I do have this blouse that I thrifted.  Red and leopard is fun for me so I opted for my red tank instead of the turquoise like Kimberly wore. Add a belt (would you expect anything else from me?) and some red/black pumps and I'm ready to rock. Or roll.  Or just go to work.

How was your Monday? I hope you're all having a great week so far!

Today's outfit:

Leopard Blouse: Salvation Army

Red Tank: Charlotte Russe

Black Slacks: Charlotte Russe

Black Belt: Salvation Army

Red/Black Pumps: Payless

  1. I love the leopard print - it plays so well against the contrast of red and black. And the pointy toed shoes are perfect with those trousers. I love this self-imposed challenge!

  2. You look great--they are certainly not complaining about your professional appearance these days. I love the leopard and red combo also...it looks just daring enough, but you've definitely kept it classy and professional!

  4. Good for you for breaking out of your comfort zone and challenging yourself! I don't think pants are comfortable either, especially not jeans. But that might also be because all of mine are too tight these days lol.

Your challenge is going fabulously! The leopard and red are so fun but you still look completely polished and chic. And your legs look a mile long with those gorgeous pointy toed pumps!

  5. I am not a fan of leopard (or any animal) prints but I love this leopard/red combo. I am also getting really inspired by your pants challenge...I need to wear them more too. Can't wait to see tomorrow's outfit.

  6. Great outfit! I go through phases with pants. I usually wear them all winter long, so I'm sick of them by the time the spring rolls around. I guess I'll need to start wearing them again soon, though :(

  8. Echoing Ashley's comment, this is a very sassy outfit! :) I used to wear pants almost every day when I was living in San Francisco. The move to Austin really had me change my wardrobe a lot. My bottoms are half skirts and half pants now.

  9. There's nothing wrong with being tomboy and wearing skirts and dresses ;). That's a great outfit, and I think pointy shoes peeking out of wider leg pants are so cute. I have to say I'm jealous of those shoes. Good luck with your challenge!

  12. You look wonderful and your waist is soooo teeny. I actually like this silhouette on you, even though you say all of your pants are the same shape. It really does look great.

The leopard and red are a great, sassy combo. You look absolutely gorgeous. Good for you for challenging yourself! I'm worried about all of my new clothes... I hope I can style them all.

  13. Great use of prints! I agree - I used to wear all pants/jeans, but dresses/skirts can actually be more comfy!

  14. Love the top! I used to be all about jeans and now I hardly find reason to wear them. I'll probably embrace them more once it cools off, but nothing beats a breezy sundress.

  15. I think you look great in pants and your accessorizing gives a them a chic, feminine touch. I just started drifting into skirts and dresses myself, and hope to ditch the hardcore tomboy look soon.

  18. Ugh, I'm not a pants gal either. I have a few pairs I love, but generally they leave me feeling dowdy. I much prefer my summer work clothes, but unfortunately the cold new england winters don't leave me much choice but the embrace pants in the winter time. I'm inspired by your willingness to step outside your comfort zone and try out a look that isn't necessarily your norm.

  20. Hey! I am replying to your comment. Yes, your blog really helps. I am working in the Vice Chancellor's office at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I report directly to the Executive Assistant, but we have Nobel Prize winners and major "white coats" in the office ALL the time. I'm nervous haha!

  21. Thank you for your kind comment, Melissa!

I fully relate to having to challenge yourself to wear pants, being very much a dress and skirt girl myself, but your pants look like a perfect fit on you, so hope that motivates you to wear them more often! The animal print and red are so fun and pretty together.

  25. Thanks everyone! This pants thing really is challenging for me. When I wore pants all the time, I mostly wore some plain tees with them or a button-up shirt...things that either won't work for my current office guidelines or don't work with my current style.

As for complaints at work - nothing about appearance! Just about other things this week. I'm just exhausted by it all. I am trying SO hard. I'm drained.

Thanks for all of your comments and support!!!

  26. The different lengths of the tops really works so great! Love this look!! I feel the same way about pants, used to wear them all the time, now I'm all about the dresses!! I may have to try this challenge :)
