Daily MelWear: Purple and Pattern

Today's outfit is brought to you by a night of not-enough-sleep.

Last night my husband and I rented The Hangover.  Which, by the way, is hysterical. Yes, it's crude and the language is awful most of the time, but it's funny.

Anyway.

We heard our daughter doing her normal groaning in her sleep and decided once the movie was over we'd go check on her (which is something we rarely ever do because she's such a good sleeper).  Well...as soon as we opened the door to her room, we were greeted with the overwhelming smell of vomit. I was trying to come up with another word to use but really, they all sound gross.

It was all over her bed, her clothes, her pillow, her blanket, her floor, in her hair and on her face...it was AWFUL.  And that poor baby was SLEEPING! She was so startled when we woke her up but once she realized she was going to play in the bathtub, she was a happy little clam. She thought it was the silliest thing ever for me to brush her teeth while she was in the tub, so that was fun. :)

It took us about 45 minutes to an hour to get her cleaned up, get her room cleaned up, put her clothes/bed stuff in the wash and remake her bed. Needless to say, I did NOT wake up at my usual 4:30AM to work out this morning.

She didn't eat dinner last night, we had pasta which she normally likes but she decided she didn't feel like eating (which is typical of her, half the time we make her favorites and she'd still rather play than eat) so she had one bite and that was it. Very, very normal, everything went as usual. I have no idea what could have caused her to get sick.  And this is the FIRST time she has ever gotten sick. I cry when I get sick like that, it hurts and it's scary! I'm surprised that she just went right back to sleep, there were no retching sounds, she didn't call for us or anything.

She woke up this morning at her normal time (I really thought she'd sleep later but not so much) and was her usual, happy self.  No fever, said her stomach felt okay.

The whole thing is just WEIRD, ya'll.

On to the outfit: when I woke up, I decided I wanted to try the all-white that I've been seeing on some other bloggers. I only own one pair of white trousers and I picked a plain white tee for the top (still need to find a great white button-down).  I figured my scarf would look nice and I don't wear it often, so this was a good opportunity.  To make it a little more professional, I added the striped blazer then to top off the outfit, my silver stilettos. I kind of like the little bit of pattern mixing between the scarf and the blazer.

I did end up pushing the sleeves up because it just seems like a more summery look instead of having them down.

So...how was YOUR night?

Today's outfit:

White Trousers: Charlotte Russe

White Tee: Target

Purple Floral Scarf: Plato's Closet

Purple Striped Blazer: hand-me-down from a co-worker

Silver Stilettos: Payless

  2. Poor thing. Both of you. I just don't do well if I don't get enough sleep. I'm not sure I could do the working mom thing. You are brave and strong. I love this look. The blazer is really cute over the all white outfit and the scarf is the perfect accessory.

  3. Bless her heart. A couple of different bugs have been really going around. Hopefully she's feeling better already.

I like this outfit! It's a lot lighter and more summery than the previous one. Maybe I'm just feeling the 100F+ heat today.

  4. I feel worse for you and the hubby than your daughter, since it seems like she glided past that whole incident with no issues!

I love The Hangover. We even bought it on DVD and I've seen it like 6 times but can't get over it.

  7. Poor little girl! I love the all white look, with that pop of purple! I don't own any white bottoms unless a skirt counts!

  8. Holy moly, Melissa!!! I'm so sorry about your little one. I can't imagine... Sadie has never thrown up, but I'm not looking forward to the day it happens. :(

You look amazing, as usual! So glad it's blazer week in the blogger world!

  9. I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter was sick. I hope it's just a 24-hour bug and that she feels better soon -- and that you can get a little rest!

This outfit looks fabulous on you. I think you pulled off the white-on-white look perfectly! I'm still trying to figure out how to do it, but you've certainly given me some inspiration.

  10. You are brave to wear all white, especially with a 3 year old! I love it though...the pop of your scarf is just great.

And thank you for such a sweet comment on my blog.

  12. Poor thing - not an ideal way to spend the evening and Hangover is hilarious!! That is weird that she felt just fine. I have had a student throw up and he aid he felt fine before and after - weird!!

I like the all white, looks so chic, nice job!

  14. Awww, I hate when my son gets pukey, too. He has gotten bugs like that - he just pukes a few times, no fever and he is fine a few hours later.

I like the all white + purple outfit, though!

  15. Hillary: Thanks. She seems to be feeling better despite the fact that now she has a fever. I want to hear your mom's story about you!

Keely: I don't do well with enough sleep either. Thank you for your sweet words! I certainly don't feel brave and strong most of the time. Thanks for your encouragement. :)

Megan: Thanks. Isn't the heat unbearable lately?! Ugh. This outfit was lighter in color, but much warmer in temperature which is actually okay in my frigid office.

Lisa: My daughter is such a trooper, she really does seem to glide past everything but knowing she's not feeling good just breaks my heart. I think we need to own The Hangover on DVD too, so hysterical!

Sarah: Thanks! White pants make me happy - when they stay clean. :) Go get yourself some white pants and rock 'em! You'd look great in white slacks!

Amy: Thank you! The scarf makes me happy, got it for $5 at Plato's Closet and it seems like it can be very versatile.

Tricia: Yes, a white skirt counts! Absolutely!

Kim: I hope you don't have to worry about Sadie throwing up for a LONG time! I'm just glad it didn't seem to bother her.

Jamie: At this point now that she has a fever, I'm thinking it's a little more than just 24 hours. :( But she's such a trooper. And thank you! I'm glad to inspire since I usually feel like I'm on the receiving end of inspiration!

Kara: Thanks! I figured white would be okay since I was at work and not with my daughter! ;)

Jessica: Thank you! She seems to be feeling better despite the fact that she has a fever now. It's just weird sometimes, she has a fever but is her normal, happy self.

Sarah: Thank you! I think it'd be worse for you to have a student throw up. I'd probably gag and throw up myself! It's one thing for it to be your own child but someone else's kid? I couldn't hande it.

Frances Joy: Thank you! I love the scarf!

Andrea: Thanks! Thankfully she only threw up one time, but now that she has a fever, I'm afraid it's not quite all better yet. Ugh.
