Daily MelWear BBCA: Wearing the Pants

I am entirely not used to wearing pants anymore. I'm never quite sure how to make them work for me, but this outfit turned out okay.

Jeans are a different story...those rarely turn out okay! I need to work on those.

So give me your thoughts on jeans and pants. Do you like them, do you not? Why or why not? What do you wear with them?

I hope you've all had a great start to your week and that it just gets better!

Daily MelWear: Changing It Up

Yes, it's me and yes, I do actually own a few pairs of pants. I just don't wear them often.

I feel like I need a change. So I wore pants. Who knows, maybe I'll cut my hair off next.

This shirt is a Salvation Army find from over the weekend. I found a few really nice pieces that I'll get around to wearing soon. I'm the type that has to take the tags off and wash new clothes right away, and wear them as soon as possible too.

Hey, I know it's still a couple months away, but I wanted to remind those of you who participated last year, and to tell all of you who are new readers, about the Blogging for Breast Cancer Awareness challenge in October. If you're not sure what it is, click here to read about it and give some thought into whether you'd like to participate this year. I'll probably start accepting sign-ups in September.

And now, to figure out what other changes I can make in my life...

Daily MelWear: Who Wears the Pants?

Every time I wear pants, it reinforces the reasons I don't like to wear pants.

However, I will say that I really adore this gray blazer with the bow belt, and I really like the red/gray/black combination. My mom was the one who suggested black pants with a red top when I found this blazer.

I'm beginning to really get into blazers these days. Last year it was cardigans every day. Does anyone else go through phases like that with certain pieces?

Belts, however...belts are forever. Forget diamonds.

Have a great Wednesday, ya'll!

{Wow, where did THAT come from?!}

Daily MelWear: This Isn't Kansas

There are more thunderstorms and tornado watches today. Seriously?! This is Florida, not Kansas. Meh.

Since it's going to be rainy and windy and yucky (and I'm supposed to deliver meeting packets to our board members - yay.), I decided to wear pants and a jacket. Short-sleeved, because it won't be cold really, and belted because, well...that's just how I roll.

I'm short on words today so I'll just wish you all a fabulous Tuesday and hope you're having better weather than we are!

Daily MelWear: Why I Don't Wear Pants

THIS.

This is why I don't wear pants. They just don't look good on me at all. I really do like the blouse (it's from my aunt, it's White House Black Market! I've never owned anything from there!) but I think it would look much nicer over a dress or tucked into a skirt (which I was going to do but then decided that the skirt I wanted to wear would be too short for today).

So. Meh.

Plus I'm not used to wearing such little color. I have the purple tank but it's not very bright and I just feel all out of my element today.

I'm really swamped at work this week and I have no idea when I'll be able to catch up with everyone. I miss reading your blogs! I love hearing from you in the comments but I really miss hearing about what's going on with you in your blogs.

Meh again to being too busy. I suppose being busy is better than being bored, though! AND - I can't tell you how grateful I am for the fact that I even have a job.

So let's end this post with a YAY!

Hope you all have a fabulous day!!!

Daily MelWear: Outfit 24/30

So I guess we all liked yesterday's dress as a shirt, right?

Okay - so then how about today's skirt as a shirt?

I'm seriously running out of ideas with my 30 pieces since the weather has gotten so warm. It's going to be in the 80's for as long as our weather predictions show us. It'll get up to 86 one day in the next week, I think. I figured I've worn a skirt as a shirt before so surely it has to be possible with some of my other skirts. I tried this one on and lo and behold, it's not bad!

I threw in the red belt and shoes with the turquoise jewelry just for some fun colors.

And also, yet more proof that a blazer can make practically anything work appropriate.

Daphne mentioned that larger pictures would be good so that you all can see details better. I'm making them as large as blogger will let me (I've tried them bigger and blogger ends up cutting them off) so this is the best I can do for now. Once I get my new camera (whenever that may be), hopefully the details will be easier to see!

That's all I've got for today. Hope you all have a great day!

Daily MelWear: Outfit 17/30

I think I can, I think I can...

I'm just gonna chalk this one up to accessories. Because really, that's the only thing that adds any interest at all to this outfit. It's black slacks and a black sweater. How much more boring can I get?! But, throw in the patterned scarf (it's HOT today ya'll, but I needed some kind of accessory and at least the scarf doesn't add too much warmth when styled this way) plus some pops of red in the belt and shoes and voila!

Not perfect but not quite as boring.

You guys have been so incredibly encouraging through this challenge. Thank you! :)

We're going to Universal on Saturday. It's going to be 80 degrees with sunny skies and no clouds. I'm strongly considering taking a day off from the 30 for 30 so that I don't melt. I feel like such a slacker for even thinking about it! I'm really wishing I'd included more warm weather items in my 30. Oops.

Hope you're having a great week! I'm super excited because my baby nephew is coming today to spend the next couple nights with us! Yay!

Black Cowl Neck Sweater: Plato's Closet

Daily MelWear: Outfit 7/30 and Fabulous in February!

One week down, three more to go! And I really only have a few more outfits in mind. This could get interesting.

I ended up not having time to fiddle with the camera at all this weekend, but I did take some shots with and without the flash. I think yesterday's post makes me think that the iPhone photos are better (those are the ones in the collages) because they're just so much more vibrant and detailed, probably because the camera shots are using the timer. Maybe I just need a better camera. All in good time...

I don't have a whole lot to say so let's get started with Fabulous in February: A Month of Positivity! Hope and I were emailing a couple of weeks ago about how easy it is for us to be critical of ourselves yet it's so difficult to give ourselves any compliments. We decided that since February is the month of loooooove, we should make an effort to love ourselves a little bit better than we do now.

Our challenge to all of you (including those of you who don't have a blog!) is to come up with three positive statements about YOURSELF (not about things that you have - it's awesome to be grateful that you have a house and great friends, but this is to be positive about WHO and WHAT you are) and post them either in your blog post or in the comments on either of our posts. We're going to do this every Monday in February!

So here are my three positive things for the first edition:
1. I really do like the fact that I can sing. I get paid to sing sometimes. My daughter asks me to sing to her and I've been asked to sing at weddings.
2. My hair is pretty. It's always been one of my best features, whether I'm happy with how it's styled or not, it's still healthy and shiny and pretty.
3. I'm short. And I like being short. I'm comfortable with my height and I don't find it necessary to dress in a way that makes me look taller. Taller for me isn't necessarily more attractive. I don't think being short is unattractive and it doesn't need to be camoflouged. Height (or lack thereof) doesn't have anything to do with being attractive in my opinion.

That's it, three things for this Monday! I'll have to do some thinking for three more things next week.

And HEY! I'm posting a giveaway later today! I'm very excited, you're going to LOVE this new sponsor!

Don't forget to link up your Fabulous in February posts!!! Here's hoping my link tool goes through correctly... :)

Daily MelWear: Little Things Mean A Lot

Hi friends!

How was your Monday? Are you glad it's over now? Mine was pretty busy at work yesterday, but I did feel really productive. That's always a good feeling.

My plan for this outfit was to wear a 3/4 length striped shirt underneath the sweater...but it was a little too tight and I opted for something more comfortable. The stripes would have made the outfit less boring but at least the sequins on the tank add a little bit of sparkle. Sparkle makes me happy.

This jacket was priced originally at $45 but I got it for $10! Can't beat that! I love the puffy shoulder details and the gold threads throughout. More shinyness!

I would have added more sparkle and detail with some jewelry but we're delivering packets to our board members today for them to review prior to next week's meeting, so I need to adhere more closely to our dress code. We're not supposed to wear much jewelry (earrings must be studs only, necklaces can only be thin silver or gold chains with one small pendant, no bracelets or rings other than wedding rings...) so I opted to not wear anything other than my watch.

This week is supposed to be warmer, in the 70s, so I may go with dresses and skirts sans tights! Ooooh, in winter! This is winter in Florida. We're one of two states that hasn't gotten snow. And THAT is why I live here.

Have a great day, everyone!

Daily MelWear: Royal Purple

Well Happy Return-To-Work-After-Christmas Week!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday weekend. I certainly did! Christmas Eve was spent at my aunt's house with my mom's side of the family, watching my girl play with her cousins and we even had a surprise visit from Santa!!! THAT was fun to watch.

Christmas day was at our house, with my parents, brother & sister-in-law & their baby boy, Princess Girl, her dad and his father and my grandmother. It was a really nice day!

On Sunday The Princess went with her dad to visit his mom and then over to his dad's house. Through the miracle of FaceTime on the iPhone 4, I was able to watch her open her gifts! Then I spent the day cleaning out her room and doing laundry. It feels so much better to have all of that done now!

Now we're back at work! *Sigh* At least I really do enjoy my new job, so that makes it a lot easier!

Oh hey, did you see my post on Favorite Holiday Outfits? You didn't? Well click here and go see all the gorgeous pictures of my lovely readers!

And now I have a very, very serious question to ask you. I really need everyone to put some thought into this and not just blurt out the first answer that comes to mind.

Here's my question: is the correct term headband or hairband? Because I see headband a lot but I also say hairband a lot, too.

These are the kinds of things that keep me up at night, people.

Have a great day!

Daily MelWear: Pop of Color

Well hello, Wednesday!

I don't have a whole lotta time today (normally I post by around 8 or 9AM, and it's already 2PM now!) so I'll make this brief.

Actually, I don't even have much to say! We had an office breakfast this morning, then we had to meet to discuss last night's board meeting, then we had to get ready for our update meeting at noon today, now I'm finally at my desk for a little while and have to leave early for a caroling gig tonight. Whee!!!

Don't forget to email me your favorite holiday outfit/party dress photos! My email is {aworkingmomscloset at gmail dot com}. I'll post them all next week and link to your blog if you have one. If you don't have a blog, email your photos to me anyway! I want to see!

And have a great rest of the day!

Daily MelWear: To Be Festive and Pick A Winner!

Hi friends!

How was everyone's weekend? We had a really good one. We had a gig on Friday night, then Saturday was spent shopping while The Princess had a day with her daddy, and then her daddy and I had a gig that night. On Sunday we took her to see Grinchmas at Universal! She LOVES the Grinch. She says, "Mommy, he was mean but then his heart grew bigger and now he's nice!" My parents bought her a stuffed Grinch that she uses to blow kisses to everyone.

I love that little girl!

Last night my friend Nicole came over and we spent the evening making pumpkin dip and candy cane cupcakes for my office's holiday open house this afternoon. Betty Crocker I am not, so I'm thankful for her help!

With the open house today our boss wanted us to dress "festive." So...festive AND professional since it's still a work day? Hm. Okay.

This outfit is actually one that I've worn as a costume for some of our contemporary group gigs (as opposed to dressing like a Dickens-era caroler). It's comfortable and I personally think it's pretty cute. For gigs I'll usually wear a sparkly black scarf with it for a more winter-ish look.

And now for the moment you've all been waiting for! Or...something like that. :) I used random.org to choose a winner for the giveaway, and the winner is...

Julia of Polka Dot Biker Shorts! Congratulations! Now we have matching necklaces! Or we will once I send yours to you. I'm going to try to email you but if you read this before I get a chance, send me an email with your address! My email is {aworkingmomscloset at gmail dot com}.

I need to give ML a HUGE thank you for sponsoring my first giveaway (...as well as my second and third and fourth and...). She sent me a ton of great pieces so I have more giveaways coming up!

Have a great Monday, everyone!

Daily MelWear:Leopard Booties!

Did you see that I posted my very first giveaway yesterday? Go enter!

I am SO in love with these shoes. I do think I'm a little too short to wear them with skirts or dresses, because they come up a bit higher and would cut my leg line in half, but they're great to wear with pants and jeans!

That's really all I have to say today! Have a great day, everyone!
