Daily MelWear: Turquoise and Red

Happy Tuesday, friends!

Thanks for the encouragement yesterday regarding the neckline of the dress.  I think I'm going to visit Target or Wal-Mart soon to buy some camis in every single color available!

When I decided on this top for today, I thought it came up higher until I pulled it out of my closet. I saw that it had a v-neck so I decided to add some color with a tank underneath and then went with red for my accessories too. Simple but very much a "me" kind of outfit!

Today's high is 82 but I think tomorrow will be in the 60's. I'll get to wear a scarf! I already have an outfit in mind. Yay!

Have a great day, everyone!

Today's outfit:
Top: Kohl's
Red Tank: Plato's Closet
Black Pants: Charlotte Russe
Red Belt: Salvation Army

Daily MelWear: New Office, New Dress

And we can now officially say Happy Holidays! Yes, I know, people were saying it before but I feel like before Thanksgiving is WAY too early for that.

How was your Thanksgiving? I really do want to hear all about it, so tell me!

This week marks the real start of my new job, since I am no longer working for my old department and I'm here full time. Yay! I figured I'd start off with a new dress. This dress makes me happy. It's a warm material so it'll be great to layer once it gets cold but for today when the high will be 82 degrees, it works because it's sleeveless. WIN! I threw on a teal belt for some color, pearls for some added femininity and I'm good.

Now the only thing I'm worried about is the fact that the girls here have mentioned I might dress a little too "edgy" for my new boss, and she's also highly offended by cleavage...and even this dress might be too low-cut for her! That makes me nervous because this dress is one of the higher necks that I have. Eek! I hope I don't mess up too badly with attire here.  I do know that she doesn't care so much about skirt hemlines so that's not a concern. :)

Are you ready to be back at work  yet? I'm excited to start this job but the long weekend has me wishing I was back in my warm bed!

Daily MelWear: No Jeans For You!

My new boss sent us an email yesterday saying that we're allowed to wear jeans today! She also emailed my old boss to ask if it would be okay for me to wear jeans in the morning on my last day at my old job.

My old boss ended up staying home sick yesterday so she never checked her email and therefore never said yes or no.

So here I am, not in jeans. Oh well! I'm used to not wearing jeans anyway. I get to look forward to wearing jeans in the future though, so yay!

Check out these sequined zebra flats - aren't they adorable?! I get the BEST flats on sale and/or clearance at Target!

And don't mind my hair...I was running late this morning and couldn't blow-dry it. Since my bangs are so long right now (I desperately need a hair cut!), I can't let them air dry so I threw on the headband. Not my favorite look, but it'll have to work.

I was thinking about posting my first giveaway last night, but then I wondered if I should wait until after Thanksgiving. Thoughts?

As I'm sure most American bloggers will understand, I may or may not post the next couple of days with Thanksgiving being tomorrow! Plus I get my girl back tonight so I'll have her tomorrow too! YAY!!!

Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving Eve!

Daily MelWear: Going, going...

And I'm almost gone! Two more days in my old job! Just this morning and tomorrow morning! That's it!

I started my new job yesterday afternoon, beginning with a Thanksgiving luncheon with us and another department. That was fun! I got to meet some new people that I'll be working with and the food was great.

The afternoon was spent arranging my desk and getting some things in order, I learned how to do a few things but it was a pretty relaxed first day. I'm excited to learn more this afternoon and to eventually be fully trained so that I can work on my own.

Since I'm walking back and forth and up and down five flights of stairs this week in my old job's new building, I'm making this week a "flats" week. Kind of kills me since I'm so prone to wearing heels, being short and all. :)

These pants are pretty new and are the perfect length for flats. My new office is warm so I wanted to wear something I'd be comfortable in with layers in case it was cold in the new building. This purple cardigan was perfect. I really like purple and green together so I grabbed the green blouse. Added a belt and some leopard flats and VOILA! Out the door!

And just as one more little personal update, my grandmother had her surgery yesterday and my mom said she's doing well.  Hopefully they will discharge her soon so that she can be out for Thanksgiving! Yip!

Hope you're all doing well and that you have a great day!!!

Daily MelWear: Confusion

Today is the day! I start my new job this afternoon!

I walked in to the other department this morning (the one that's in the Institute with my old department but my boss told me I would be helping this other department answer phones while they unpack from our move last week) and both of the girls there had no idea what I would be doing or why. They said there is already so much confusion from the move that they can't imagine adding the factor of training someone (me) into the mix.

So I went back to my old department and my co-worker said she'd gotten off the phone with our boss who told her that I would be helping her to unpack this morning.

Interesting.

I figured I would do a real quick blog post while I can, since I'm not sure when I'll be able to post again with the job transitions and everything.

Hope you're all doing well and had a great weekend!!!

Daily MelWear: Jeans At Work!

Did I mention that in my new position, we're allowed to wear jeans on Thursdays if we put $1 towards the charity that's been chosen for the year?  Well yeah. That's cool. :)

Today I can wear jeans because it's MOVING DAY! This post has to be quick because I'm not sure when the movers are coming.

And with that being said, I'm not sure how much I'll be able to post in the next couple of weeks, starting my new job and everything.  Maybe I'll try to start posting at night and see how that goes. We'll see.

I chose my skinny jeans for today so that I could wear flats, and this top is one of the new ones from Ross. Actually I only bought two tops over the weekend and now I've worn both of them. I love the flower detail on the neckline of this one.  It's going to be a great top for fall/winter in Florida, with the long sleeves but lightweight material.

That's about it for me today! I want to get this post up in case the movers come in the next few minutes!

Have a great day everyone!

Daily MelWear: Beauty Is Pain

So tomorrow is the Big Office Move. My old office is moving into their new building! I'm going to pack up my things and move them to my new office either today or tomorrow, rather than keeping them in my car until Monday when I start the new job. Or, when I partially start the new job.  Apparently I'm being "loaned" out to one of the departments in the new building to answer their phones in the mornings so that they can unpack next week, then I'll be at my new job in the afternoons. After Thanksgiving, I'll be in the new job full-time! Yay! I'm excited!!!

I've decided that I'm getting a little tired of myself...I feel like while I do have a lot of things being thrown at me, I really shouldn't be burdening you all with every minute detail of my life. There were a few more things that happened yesterday but I think I really need to stop whining.

{One last update, for those of you wondering about my grandmother: they cancelled the gallbladder surgery because she has fluid in her lungs. They are giving her antibiotics to get rid of the fluid, then they'll do the surgery in hopes of removing the infection from her gallbladder which they think is causing the sepsis. That might take a few days for the fluid to be gone, then the surgery, then recovery, so she'll likly be in the hospital for a bit longer. Thank you for your prayers! Please keep praying!}

Suffice it to say that I'm about at my breaking point with things I can handle! I know that God will never give me more than I can handle, but I think He has WAY more faith in me than I do! Maybe I should take that as a compliment. Or something. :)

Okay so look at the GORGEOUSNESS that is this dress. Isn't it fabulous?! This is a gift from the one, the only, the spectacular Marilou of Twenty York Street! Not only did she send me this beautiful dress, but she also owns one and sent one to JoAnn as well! I LOVE the way these incredible ladies have styled the dress (and since ML also sent me a leopard scarf like hers, I may have to copy her outfit one day too!)!

Now let's talk about these shoes. They're awesome! So adorable! So flattering! So versatile!

SO PAINFUL! I need to go buy some Dr. Scholl's inserts or something because seriously, my feet hurt before I even left the house this morning. But they are WAY cute and I couldn't bear the thought of not wearing them today. Beauty hurts sometimes, right? Right? Eh...

Today's outfit:
Watercolor Dress: Banana Republic (gift from ML)
Teal Tights: Charlotte Russe
Gray Booties: Charlotte Russe
Black Cardigan: Kohl's
Pearl Necklace: Ross (it's actually supposed to be a headband...but I like it as a necklace)

Daily MelWear: Secretary Style

Hi everyone!

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I had a gig in the morning and our costume was all black, so I figured it wasn't very interesting. Not to mention that I didn't have time to snap any photos.

Here's a quick recap of the weekend: I had Friday with my girl! Tried to make cupcakes. Failed miserably. Although they apparently still tasted good because they're almost all gone now.

Saturday morning we met for breakfast with her dad and he took her for the weekend. I went shopping with my friend after breakfast and on our way there, I sort of rear-ended her car. It was not fun.  I'm a little emotionally drained right now so where I'd normally remain calm and relaxed and logical, instead this time I was rather hysterical and she had to calm me down. I still relive that entire thing. It's awful. We still went on to the outlet mall and shopped for hours. I went to Ross after she had to leave and spent two more hours shopping, then I came home and threw it all in the washer and promptly crashed in bed.

Sunday I got up early and went to a rehearsal.  All. Day. Long.  My grandmother was also admitted to the hospital on Sunday with sepsis and pneumonia. {As I'm typing this on Tuesday morning, she is being wheeled in to surgery to have her gallbladder removed because they think that's where the infection is coming from, so hopefully she'll recover quickly from surgery and be back home soon - although I'm not sure how serious sepsis is, maybe I'm being overly optimistic.} I didn't get back home and in bed until 11PM. Then I had to get up at 4:30AM on Monday to make our call time for the actual show.

We got done with the performance around noon, then I hightailed it back to my office for the rest of the day, came home to do more laundry and was in bed by around 8:30PM.

I'm still exhausted!

My department went to breakfast this morning to celebrate my upcoming transfer and we're also having cake at lunch today with all of the departments, so that's happy.

After work my father-in-law is bringing my daughter to meet me and her dad for dinner at Mellow Mushroom! I'll get to take her home with me tonight and I'll have her this weekend too.

After we get home, I'll probably put her to bed while my dad is there to watch her and then my mom and I will go visit my grandmother, if she's up to having visitors tonight.

Wow, that's a lot of text. I didn't mean to be so wordy.

As far as today's outfit, it's sort of a cop-out because I'm not feeling particularly creative. I bought all three pieces (skirt, top, jacket) at Ross on Saturday and figured today was a good day to wear them. Why not? :)

Hope you're all having a great day! I keep saying that I'm going to catch up on blogs to catch up with all of you but as you can see, life is keeping me from doing anything at all, including REST! One day...one day I'll be able to catch up. I also haven't had a spare moment to respond to emails but if you've emailed me in the past week or two, I WILL reply as soon as I possibly can! I'm sorry for not being quicker!

Daily MelWear: Leopard and Ruffles

I am SO excited. I'm still bubbling with excitement over this new position. I've been finding out some really great things (they have a GRIDDLE because they usually have breakfast after morning devotionals!) and it sounds like it'll be a nice environment to work in.

AND I got to see my girl this morning before work! I can't wait to be done with the day so that I can go home to her tonight!

Too bad I wore a skirt and stilettos today though. Apparently we need to have everything packed up by Monday morning (and we're off on Fridays so that means TODAY).

This pink top would have been great to have during October and the BBCA Challenge! It's a gift from ML (I adore you, woman!) and she also sent me some giveaway items that I REALLY need to start posting. Hopefully I can post my first giveaway soon.  Here's a hint: it's a duplicate of something I own and have worn on the blog before!

Okay, need to start packing so I'm ending now.  Have a great day!

Daily MelWear: A New Beginning

You guys.

I GOT THE JOB!!!

I think by now most of you already know because of Facebook and Twitter, but just in case you don't keep in touch through those, now you know.

I am SO excited! So relieved!

If I haven't said it before, I'm saying it now: God is AWESOME. I could bore you with the details of how this entire thing played out, but I'm not going to. Suffice it to say that this was definitely orchestrated by God and everything worked out like a miracle for everyone involved.

I'll stay in my current position next week (when we move into the new building) and then on the 22nd, I'll technically be in my new position but will go between the two just that first week.

I keep my pay rate, I keep my benefits, I keep my accrued vacation time and accrual rate and most importantly, I keep my Fridays off with my girl!!!

I miss my girl. I'll get to see her again tomorrow. I can't wait. (I know, I have to wait so clearly I can - just work with me here.)

Oh yeah, I'll probably get to wear open-toe shoes there, too. It's a smaller, more secluded department so I think they're slightly more lenient. YAY!

Now for today's outfit. Perhaps I should have labeled this post "Simplicity" because really, how much simpler (and more boring) does it get? A black dress, throw on a cardigan, belt, heels and walk out the door. Done. At least I'm comfy, though. Someone hand me a pillow so I can take a nap now.

Today's outfit:
Black Dress: Plato's Closet
Blue Zebra Cardigan: Wal-Mart
Black Mary Janes: Wal-Mart

Daily MelWear: Black and White and Purple All Over

Guess what?!

I had an interview yesterday! Those of you that follow me on Twitter know about this already but for those who don't, I'll fill you in.

The girl that I interact with most at this department was emailing me yesterday morning to let me know that the position should be posted online. I kept looking for it and so did she but it never went through for me to officially apply.  Regardless, the director emailed me to ask if I could interview with her in the afternoon.

My interview was at 1PM and went REALLY well.  She already knows me from the work that I'm currently doing (we need to submit our studies to this department for approval, as well as any changes, protocol deviations, monitor reports, etc.) so she's familiar with the work that I produce. What she decided to do instead of a formal interview was go over the job description with me.  Honestly, what I heard most was "newsletters in MS Publisher, prepare PowerPoint presentations, assist with conference arrangements" and some other things that I have experience with but haven't had an opportunity to use in my current job.

She's hoping to make a decision soon but she needs to find out from HR how many interviews she will have to perform before she can decide.  She also wants me to meet with another manager from a different department this morning; that is scheduled for 8:30AM.

The BEST part is that this department is closed on Fridays, so I could maintain my current schedule and keep my Friday Mommy Days with my girl!

I don't want to get my hopes up...but I'm getting my hopes up.

Oh right, this is a style blog.  Here's my outfit for today too. :)

Daily MelWear: Out of Time

This is what happens when you don't have enough time to change your outfit.

This one does not work for me. I'm not entirely sure what it is, maybe that the shoes and belt don't quite match but don't contrast nicely either, or maybe the shirt doesn't work with this skirt, or maybe I need more necklaces. Or a scarf. Or something.

At any rate, I'm now wearing a big, over-sized sweater to cover everything up (not to mention because it's 64 degrees IN MY OFFICE) so I can stay hidden.

Today is Monday. I said good-bye to my baby girl again this morning, this time for three days instead of just two, because her great-grandfather has a Pearl Harbor Survivor event this Wednesday and my mother-in-law really wanted to take her there to be with him for that. This next weekend will also be my first weekend without her...so I'll get to spend time with her on Thursday night after work and on Friday when I'm off, but that's really it for over a week, from today through next Tuesday or Wednesday when I'll get her back again.

When is this going to start getting easier? I cried just as much this morning as I did last Monday when I said good-bye.

Okay...I'm done whining. Thanks for letting me get that out.

Friend Friday: Au Naturale

About today's Friend Friday subject Katy says, "This week we're veering more toward the beauty side of things and talking about the growing trend of going all natural by eliminating shampoos, soaps, deodorant, etc..."

Here are the questions and my answers:

1. The move to do away with soap, shampoo and deodorant has been growing in popularity in the last year. What are your thoughts on this trend?
The human population existed way before soap, shampoo and deodorant. They must have survived somehow! If there is a way to maintain cleanliness and sanitation without the use of chemicals, it could only be a good thing.

2. Be honest, how often do you wash your own hair?
Every day. Every single day. My hair is very oily, as is my face, plus I have bangs, so if I don't wash every day then my bangs just look greasy and dirty and that's not good.  I've tried to skip a day and just rinse with water, but that still left my hair looking like poo so I shampoo every day.

3. Have you tried to go the more natural route by forgoing shampoo? What happened? Or would you be tempted to try it?
Forgoing shampoo altogether? And using what else instead? I'm confused. (I live in this state of confusion currently.)

4. What products do you use and have you ever gone with more organic alternatives?
I'll be honest: I can't afford organic. I really can't. I buy the $1.98 dandruff shampoo from Aldi (a really, REALLY inexpensive supermarket in Florida) and typically a conditioner from there as well. I normally buy deodorant from Big Lots or Wal-Mart and have been using bottles of body wash from Bath & Body Works from my mother-in-law (although I'm almost out of that now!). They work well and fit into my budget, so that's what I get.

5. What about that daily shower? Would you forgo that opting to shower three times a week instead?
Oh dear. Considering that I work out at least five times a week and drip sweat almost every time, I don't think that would be very sanitary. At the VERY least, everyone should rinse off every day! I would still highly recommend using soap every day too. And like I said in my first answer, if there is another way to maintain cleanliness and sanitation without chemicals, I'd love to know!

To check out everyone else's responses, visit Katy's blog at Modly Chic! Thanks for reading, everyone! Hope you have a great Friday and an even better weekend!!!

Daily MelWear: Good-bye to the 80's

Today has a high of 79. 79! That means we're not in the 80's anymore!

I figured it was time for long sleeves. Granted, they're light-weight sleeves but they're long nonetheless. And I'm wearing booties. Yay!

I had such lofty goals of doing a BBCA Challenge Recap post but that hasn't happened yet. (Clearly.) I do want to thank all of you that participated for bringing awareness to breast cancer prevention, research and treatment. If you have stories to tell, please let me know because I WILL publish those (with your permission and they can be anonymous if you'd like or I can link to your blog) - but I need you to share them with me!

Today started out sleepily. I'm not sure if I'm just not sleeping well or if I just need to catch up on some sleep. Maybe I'm dehydrated. I really don't know, all I know is that I'm exhausted!

My girl came out of her room just a few minutes before I had to leave for work so I was able to get lots of kisses and snuggles and giggles to get me through the day! Plus we were able to FaceTime with her dad for a few minutes too.  I'm so grateful for the iPhone 4's ability to video chat. So very grateful.

And THEN - on my way to work my co-worker asked me what I'd like from Panera because she'll be stopping there later this morning! Woo-hoo! Pumpkin goodies!

Now I'm off to do more research on letter blocks so I can re-take that test next week. :)

Hope you all had a great Wednesday night and are having a good Thursday so far! I think I might be able to catch up on blogs in the next couple of days - yay!!! I can't wait to read about everyone again!

Daily MelWear: To Take A Test

Our office has been cold lately. FREEZING. Like somewhere around 65 degrees for some reason. I decided I needed long sleeves and this dress seemed to work. I added the cardigan to cover up the plunging neckline instead of layering something underneath.

Enter: The Belt. This belt saved the outfit. In all honesty, the outfit was kind of "meh" when I first put it on but the belt made it worthy of being seen outside the house. It would have been bad if I couldn't leave the house today. :)

I got to see my girl this morning!!! We met at my office a little while before I had to take that test and I was able to snuggle and hang out with her for a few minutes. I can't wait until tonight when I can go home to her!

Speaking of the test...I did well on everything except for Letter Block, which is formatting a formal letter in regards to where each piece goes, such as the salutation, "re" line, CC, enclosure, etc. I was only given two letters and I was apparently incorrect on both of them. Oops. That's the only portion I'll have to take again because I exceeded the minimum scores on everything else, but if I don't pass it the second time around I can't re-take it for another YEAR.

This makes me nervous.

So does anyone have some templates they want to send me? I'm googling sample letters but still. NERVOUS.

The other job that I was contacted about by the director still hasn't been approved by HR so it's not posted yet for me to submit my resume "officially". I've been chatting with one of the girls there and it sounds like something I would really enjoy - plus, Fridays off like I have now!

Please pray with me for this one!

Okay I think I'm done.  Today is still a little bit crazy, we finished the 180 patient meter study yesterday so now I have to play catch-up on all of my other work that's been pushed to the back burner. Hopefully I'll be back to normal tomorrow so that I can read a blog or two! I miss you guys!

Daily MelWear: Jewelry Inspiration

You guys are so encouraging. You helped me get through the day yesterday.  I just have to get through today/tonight and then I'll see my girl for a few minutes before work tomorrow and again when I leave work tomorrow night. I can't wait!

I'm feeling less than inspired lately with my outfits. This one came together mostly because of the jewelry, for which I need to give a HUGE thank you to ML of Twenty York Street!!! She has the most exquisite taste and I'm honored that she sent me some gifts AND some giveaway items! Stay tuned; I'll throw up the first giveaway post soon! So exciting!

This shirt is way too big. I didn't even realize I'd kept anything from my pre-weightloss wardrobe but this is one such item. I decided since I was going to belt it that it might work anyway.  I think the only reason it does is because of the necklace! Isn't this necklace gorgeous? Pearls, diamonds, gold strands...*sigh*

And CHECK OUT this bracelet! This is fantastic-ness wrapped around my wrist! Love it.

I took a typing test yesterday and got 89 wpm with 100% accuracy the first time, then 92 wpm with 99% accuracy the second time. I'm supposed to have at least 30 wpm for my test tomorrow morning! That makes me feel a little bit better.

And that's really all my news.  I miss you guys.  I haven't been able to read any blogs or keep up with anyone lately and it makes me so sad. I feel very detached from my bloggy friends!

Today's outfit:
Brown Top: Can't remember. Really.
Brown Floral Skirt: Target
Teal Belt: Salvation Army
Brown Studded Heels: Wal-Mart
Necklace and Bracelet: Gift from ML

Daily MelWear: BBCA Da- No wait, we did it!

It took actual effort for me to not wear something pink today. It felt unnatural, almost.

For those of you that follow me on
Twitter, you may have seen my tweet already this morning. I went to work a little bit later because The Princess was up late last night trick-or-treating and I didn't want her to have to wake up super early today, plus I didn't want my mother-in-law to have to leave her house quite so early to come pick her up this one time. We met for breakfast at Einstein's. It was really nice.

And then...I had to say good-bye to my girl for the next three days. She'll be with her dad at his mom's house tonight and tomorrow night, then my mom will meet him at my office to pick my girl up on Wednesday morning and I'll see her again Wednesday night after work. I'll have her for this first weekend too, so that helps.

But I've never spent two nights away from her before. I had a mini-meltdown on my way to work so now that I'm here, I'm grateful for the opportunity to be at work with distractions. Thank God (no really, thank You God!) for FaceTime on the iPhone too; at least I'll get to "see" her to say good-night.

On the job front, I've been informed of an opening with a department that my current department works with regularly and they also have Fridays off, so I'll formally submit my resume for that position as soon as the job is posted. There's also another opening in Emergency Department Administration for which my resume has been submitted. I'll need to take an Executive Secretarial test to continue that application process; hopefully I can take that this Wednesday. It makes me nervous! I'll take a typing test and be test on Spelling, Grammar, Secretarial Skills, Vocabulary, Letter Setup-Block, Proofreading and Office management Skills. Wow. That's intimidating to me!

We moved this weekend. I ended up having to get a larger storage unit which means more money every month. That stinks. I'm eternally grateful to all the guys who helped us move, along with my friend Nicole.

So that's all my news. Moving is done. Need to get organized. Still searching for a job but have prospects.

And I miss my girl. A lot.

And now Blogger won't let me format my pictures the way I want. Irritation is not what I need right now.
