Hi everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty great! Saturday night I threw a surprise party for my husband (I did take pictures of my dress but will save those for another post) and it was GREAT!
This week I decided that in light of recent events, I'm going to impose a fashion challenge on myself. But I'm not going to tell you what it is. Although you're all really smart and can probably figure it out. You can take guesses though. I don't have a prize for the winner; just the satisfaction of knowing you're right. :)
This purplish-pink shirt has been in my closet for a while and I've thought about getting rid of it several times. I really like the floral embellishment on the left side which is why I've kept it, plus I think the bright color is really pretty, but it's a little too big, the shoulders slip down and it's kind of long.
I put it on over top of the black dress that I wore to church on Sunday and kind of liked the idea of layering something underneath. I didn't wear it on Sunday so I figured I'd try it today. My first instinct was a black shirt but then I decided to look for another color that would play nicely and the green just jumped out at me. The gray slacks and silver stilettos were the neutrals I needed, along with the black necklace and belt.
Honestly I think these pictures turned out a lot better than the outfit did in person. I do really like the color combo. The sleeves are still slipping down so mayb next time I'll pick a shirt with sleeves to layer underneath instead of a tank.
So how was your weekend? Do you have any fun plans for tonight or this week?
Today's outfit:
Purple Floral Tee: Plato's Closet
Green Tank: Target
Gray Slacks: Kohl's
Silver Stilettos: Payless
Black Necklace: Wal-Mart
I love that color combination! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteHello girlie!!!
ReplyDeleteI think you look fabulous in these colors....really great choices!! You look SUPERB darling:)
How sweet of you to throw hubby a party...I bet he was so surprised:)
Hi Mel, how was the birthday celebration? I'm sure you had tons of fun! What did you wear?
ReplyDeleteHmmnn... would it be wearing pants for office outfits?
xoxo,

The outfit looks great in the pics - I am betting it looked just as nice in person!
ReplyDeleteGreat color combo! I am glad you decided to keep it!
ReplyDeleteNice outfit! :) I love the purple!

Never thought of mixing these two colors together but they look fun and terrific on you. As for your challenge, hmmmm I can't guess. Hope you have a great work week. Labor Day is next Monday (yay! I hope I don't have to come in on a holiday, that would be bad).
ReplyDeleteI love the purple and green, Melissa. I'm sure the outfit would have been pretty had you picked the black shirt to layer, but the green really gives it a special pop. Gotta wear our summer colors while we can, right?
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to seeing your outfit challenges for this week. I'm sure you will be even more creative with your choices than usual!
Great color combo!
ReplyDeleteSurprise parties are so fun...glad to hear you had a great time :)
The floral tee is so beautiful...that color on you is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the dress you wore, I *LOVE* dresses.
I LOVE that shirt! So pretty! The color and flower embellishment are so feminine and adorable. But I know what you mean, if a fit isn't spot on it doesn't matter how gorgeous a piece of clothing is, we just won't be 100% happy with it. But I definitely think the way you belted it and having the shirt underneath makes it fit beautifully! You look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThat color purple looks wonderful on you! I know what you mean--I have a similar shirt that I always want to put on with a tank...but then you can see my shoulder peeping out between the layers. Its a tight fitted shirt though, so trying to scrunch a shirt with sleeves under it can sometimes be difficult!
ReplyDeleteI love the purple and green! I'm actually wearing similar colors today.
ReplyDeleteCould it be trouser time?! lol! You look great in dress pants, and I LOVE the metallic shoe peeking its way out.
Great color combo on top! I need to try that! I can't wait to start wearing layers here!

I always love love the bright colors you use. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteOhhh... love the color combo!!
ReplyDeleteThat color combination is great. The top looks good with that outfit, and it looks like belting it really helped break up the length and give the top some shape. Also, as a new reader, I've really been enjoying your blog and hope its okay for me to comment. :)
ReplyDeletePurple looks wonderful on you!
ReplyDeleteWell I love the pants you are rocking - I don't think I've seen you in pants before, and I love the wide leg, I don't think people wear them enough anymore!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Can't wait to see what you wore to the partay!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm so sorry about what happened at work. What a bummer. And I don't agree with your supervisor at all. You dress fine for work and always look professional (and cute), but I guess you have to follow her even when you don't agree.
Well a couple of you got it right with the challenge - I guess last week's posts didn't make it all that difficult. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the encouragement! I'm so not used to pants anymore!
20 York - I'll blog about what I wore to the party. It was a great party dress, I'll tell you that! :)
Jamie - I may write a post about summer colors. I see so many bloggers write about having to wear them before summer is over, but I kind of find colors to be seasonless and I'm planning on wearing a lot of them during winter too! Even (gasp) my white pants! ;)
Matt - of course it's okay for you to comment! I love hearing from readers!
Jessica - yeah I don't agree with her either. But you're right, I have to abide even if I don't agree. Phooey. :)
Thanks everyone!
I love the colour of your top!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your work situation, confrontation is never fun.
But think of it this way, you looked fabulous, maybe to fabulous for them and they were a little jealous of your awesome legs :-)
Meek - I'll take that as a reason! I don't honestly think anyone could be jealous of my short, stubby legs but I can certainly pretend! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the pink and the green combination here.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your challenge -- I'm sure you'll be creative and still allow your own personality shine through. You can overcome this dress code thing :)
I really like the color combo you have going on there! And I can't wait to see your dress from the party. What a lucky hubby you have.
ReplyDeleteIs the purple sweater a really thin material? because it could look really nice tucked into something. I have a thin sweater that I think i'm going to tuck into black shorts (with black tights) once fall hits.
ReplyDeleteJust a thought! Because the colour is great on you!
Melissa
i love purple. mine was great!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit! I love the proportions of the belted waist and wider-leg pants. So sleek.
ReplyDeleteHoly moly, donut shop, girl! You have like a zillion and a half comments. GO YOU!
ReplyDeleteI love this color combo on you. And your pants are kind of incredible. Not like the Incredible Hulk, but like, "Oh my gosh, you look incredible!" I want pants like these, stat. You said you're short, but these make you look long and lean! LOVE.
Belts are always stunning on you. And I love the purple/green combo. It looks great with your skin!
Colors jump out at me too, but sometimes I feel like I've worn enough bright looks so I tone it down, but I'm itching to try something bold soon!
ReplyDeleteJoAnn, thanks for the encouragement!
ReplyDeleteMelissa, the purple IS really thin, it's actually t-shirt material. I could probably tuck it into a skirt - I don't think my pants fit well enough for tucking. The shorts idea sounds fabulous! I might have to go buy some just for that! :)
Thanks for all of your sweet comments, guys! You're GREAT!!! :)
Oh I love the colors and silhouette of this outfit! The belt is perfect with the longer purple tee. If you're not feeling it, though, and are fussing with the top more than just feeling as awesome as it looks, then it's not worth it in my opinion. I think maybe a cap sleeve underneath would help the slippage factor and I hope you give it another chance. It's such a great color on you, so I hope it works out!
ReplyDeleteThe style rules of 3 colors at most in an outfit totally fall flat with this outfit. You combine all those colors and still managed to pull off a great outfit. So cool. - Katy http://modlychic.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteSara, I'm definitely going to try a cap sleeve next time. I was going to wear one with this outfit but I noticed some stains on it so I couldn't.
ReplyDeleteKaty - Thanks!
You've worked the proportions of this top so well - the belt and shirt underneath make it super flattering! Plus, the color is fantastic. I'm glad you decided to keep it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mariel! I'm glad I kept it too, now I'm excited to see what I can do with it for fall/winter.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I had this shirt but, it was too small on me! It looks super cute on you :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Iris! I just really like the color of it. :)
