Daily MelWear: Outfit 8/30

AHHH! You guys!!! I have lots of warm fuzzies after reading all of your positive thoughts about yourselves yesterday in the first week of Fabulous in February. It's so exciting to hear everyone speak so well and so lovingly about themselves! If you weren't able to participate yesterday, feel free to do so today and link up here or just jump in next Monday. Big thanks to Hope for co-hosting this awesome event with me!

Also, did you hear about my newest giveaway? It's a CUSTOM DESIGNED Pronta Scarf! You have to go check this designer out. She's incredibly talented and all of her pieces are so beautiful. Go here to enter the giveaway if you haven't yet! Entries are accepted until Sunday night, the winner will be announced on Valentine's Day!

Today is another Board Meeting day (second and fourth Tuesday of each month) which means I have to be dressed as close to "in code" as possible. This skirt isn't in code...and I don't think the tights are...and more than likely this shirt is too bright of a color as well...but this outfit is closer to the dress code than my usual ones. My boss is pretty adament about not wearing any "bling" so I make sure to adhere to at least that part of the guidelines when I know we have meetings.

I love the lace details on this blazer!

A few people have asked about my work dress code because I mention it a lot, so I figured I should go into a little bit of detail. I might include a box in my sidebar too just so it's easily accessible.

Here are the basics of my corporation's dress code. Some of these are due to the fact that the company is Seventh-Day Adventist, others are in the name of professionalism. Either way, I think they're too strict but I wasn't consulted so my opinion doesn't matter. :)
*No patterns unless they are so subtle that they appear to be solids from a distance
*No bright colors
*No animal prints of any kind (there goes my dress...and my shirt...and my skirt...and my booties...and my shoes...and my other shoes...)
*No bracelets
*Necklaces must be a single, thin strand of either silver or gold and have no more than one small pendant
*Earrings must not extend past the earlobe (so, only studs then?)
*No open-toe shoes (not even peep toes!)
*Belts much match or be in a neutral coordinating color with the outfit
*Tights/hose must be a neutral or flesh-toned color with no patterns
*Any nail polish must be a flesh-toned color
*Hair accessories are limited to small barrettes or hair clips in a shade that matches the hair color

All that being said, my current supervisor has clearly been more than lenient in allowing me to dress as myself. I'm not sure what I would do if she decided to crack down and enforce the guidelines, of which there has been some mention lately. I hope that doesn't happen. We don't see patients in our office and rarely do we even see other co-workers, so I don't see why it would be a problem for us to have more liberty in our attire.

Hope you're all having a great week so far! Don't forget to enter the giveaway!

  3. That is some dress code! I mean, no animal prints?! So sad! I love your pulled together look here. Hope it goes over well for the board meeting.

  4. I like the skirt, very much. But I'd like to try it with a total black or a total white top, basic and essential, heavy tights and red shoes.

  5. oh my gosh, that dress code would give me a panic attack! The dress code at my work applies more to uniformed employees than office workers - but we do have a few rules - no jeans, no flip flops, no halters/spaghetti straps, and no spandex pants.

So it's pretty easy to deal with!

  6. oh, and animal prints are totally encouraged at my work....but I work at a zoo...so it's basically a given!

  8. I love that skirt.
Your dress code sounds like the one I had when I waited tables in college at Applebees. No necklaces, studs only, clear or french-manicured nails, no crazy hair colors, BUT your shorts couldn't be any LONGER than your finger tips. So I had to wear booty a$$ shorts but couldn't paint my nails red??? So glad I'm done with that part of my life :)

  9. That is a HARDCORE dress code. That being said, I think it's still workable. I think you could absolutely work with everything there...except for the "bright colors" bit, which is just annoying. Hope they don't make you keep to it!

  10. That is quite the dress code. I've never worked anywhere as restrictive. You still manage to look good even negotiating all those rules - I'm not sure I could!

  16. I'd die with your dress code. But! I think it's really great that they let you push the boundaries a bit. I love the skirt and the blazer brings it all into a very cute business look.

  18. As a former HR Director, that dress code is INSANE! I do love though that you wore your fishnet tights because technically they are a neutral and don't really have a pattern...LOL! I love your belt too and for having to adhere to the Nazi dress code, you look absolutely fabulous!

Thanks for the kind comment on my blazer post-I'll be sure to participate next week on the Month of Positivity (I meant to this week, just didn't get it posted!)

  19. That is one crazy dress code, my friend. There is no way I'd be able to work in the confines of that, and still look as nice as you do every day!

  20. That is the silliest dress code ever. I am sorry. Must be written by a woman to have such detail and not sure what they are trying to do. Glad your supervisor does not enforce. I worked in a very conservative profession but our dress code was simple and mostly spoke to what men wore as it was run by men. I prefer that much better. Like the bright green in your outfit.

  21. First of all you look fabulous! I love how you belted that skirt.

Second - that is the craziest dress code I've ever heard. I've never heard of a place limited what kind of barrettes you could put in your hair.

  22. I saw the pictures and immediately thought: "must be a board meeting day!" That's so crazy about the prints. That means no stripes! How does a girl live without stripes?!?!

  23. Wow, your dress code is intense. With that said I think you look very professional today. Love the skirt!

  24. WOW thats a crazy dress code. They would kick me out. I love wearing bright colors and different jewelry.

    Your skirt is very cute.

  25. Oh dear now I understand! I grew up in an SDA town and went through their education system, and it sucks! Such silly ridiculous rules! I really feel your pain, and now I'm really worried that they're going to crack down on the rules, they're like that!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't think I could handle that dress code! I LOVE this bow belt and BLUE (great color on you), it's so cute. Thanks to you to for yesterday- I can't believe the turn out! So great!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wow, that's a crazy strict dress code!!! I'm glad to see you're able to remain true to yourself and your style despite the code. I know I definitely bend the dress code rules at my workplace from time to time!

    ReplyDelete
  28. That dress code is just depressing! Do they want you to dress in a zookeeper suit? You are so cute!

  29. Re: your company's dress code - wow, wow, wowie! I give you even more major props now for being able to still stay true to your style and pull together fantastic looks while working under your dress restrictions.

  30. THanks for visiting my website! And thanks for doing the EBEW event!! SO FUN!! and Oh My Goodness - how does anyone get away with such a dress code these days? Very interesting. You look great!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Whoa, those are some strict rules! No patterns!? I've never heard of such strict dress guidelines. But since you somewhat conform to these rules I wonder what you would whip out if there were no rules? :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. wow, that's a strict dresscode...i totally commend you for being able to follow that!

    cuteeee outfit!

  33. Crikey Malone! That is a serious dress code! I'm impressed that you can still dress like you and that you are not openly frustrated and rebellious like I would be. I worked at a place that was business dress code, which I hated so I wore tshirts under my 3/4 length suit jacket and bright shoes. Once I became disenchanted I started to pin my hair back so my eyebrow ring could be seen and took off the watch hiding a tattoo.
Anyways... the point is that you look great! I love the black and white skirt with that top. The colour is beautiful on you!

  34. Can the dress code be any stricter? It's good to have the blog as an outlet!BTW your givaway is one of the best I've come accross! And before I forget it...this skirt is so versatile,I couldn't tell in the begining!

  35. Great skirt! I found out about the February positivity challenge through Hope, but it sounds like you are the creator of it. Thanks for the idea! I guess I stated mine incorrectly, but I could totally reword them to make them fit.

  36. Ridiculous dress code! I'm glad they let you be lenient. And by "lenient" I mean "normal and well dressed". Do they want everyone walking around in a black pantsuit? ugh!

    ReplyDelete
  37. That dress code is insane...I have never heard of anything quite so ridiculous!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh my gosh! I LOVE this outfit, every bit of it!! I mean, its completely fabulous! I wish I had a copy of it! That belt is super cute too!! And wow... that dress code is crazy! That would be so frustrating to deal with!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow, most strict dress code ever! Makes me sad that someone could potentially have an issue with such a pretty outfit. Loving that blouse and that belt.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Geeeeez that is one heck of a dress code!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Eep I would not like a dress code like that.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wow. I'd be in lots and lots and lots of trouble with that dress code. You have my sympathies.
