I'm just gonna chalk this one up to accessories. Because really, that's the only thing that adds any interest at all to this outfit. It's black slacks and a black sweater. How much more boring can I get?! But, throw in the patterned scarf (it's HOT today ya'll, but I needed some kind of accessory and at least the scarf doesn't add too much warmth when styled this way) plus some pops of red in the belt and shoes and voila!
Not perfect but not quite as boring.
You guys have been so incredibly encouraging through this challenge. Thank you! :)
We're going to Universal on Saturday. It's going to be 80 degrees with sunny skies and no clouds. I'm strongly considering taking a day off from the 30 for 30 so that I don't melt. I feel like such a slacker for even thinking about it! I'm really wishing I'd included more warm weather items in my 30. Oops.
Hope you're having a great week! I'm super excited because my baby nephew is coming today to spend the next couple nights with us! Yay!
Today's outfit:
Black Slacks: Charlotte Russe
Black Cowl Neck Sweater: Plato's Closet
Black/White Scarf: Big Lots (seriously!)
Red Belt: Salvation Army
Red/Black Pumps: From my mom
Ring: Forever 21
Fun! babies are always good to be around :)
ReplyDeleteI love the scarf - you're right. It adds just the right amount of interest to your outfit. And I think taking a day off from the challenge is perfectly acceptable!
I have an idea. You can wear you jeans with your black cardigan with a cami under that. If you get to hot just take the cami off. Also wear your flats. I hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteI love your scarf. I just start to wear more of them during 30 for 30.

Oh man I hope you don't melt! I love that scarf under the belt look. I've been meaning to try that out to add interest to a basic outfit and I keep forgetting! You wear it so well!
ReplyDeletelooooove it! The belted scarf is great!
ReplyDeleteScarves are a great way to make an outfit awesome!
ReplyDeleteI would take a day off from the challenge. It's awful to be at an amusement park and feel uncomfortable because of what you're wearing.
Not boring at all! I think the all black look is classic and you accesorized perfectly.
ReplyDeleteAnd no worries about taking a day off - I think weather is a good excuse. I think it's much more important to be comfortable for a day at Universal instead of feeling too hot.
i think its a cute outfit..sometimes the simplest ones in our minds just end of rocking...and this one does:)
ReplyDeleteLove the belted scarf....really makes it interesting:)

WOWZA you are smoking in this outfit- thank goodness accessories are not included! I see you're wearing 'our' shoes- so comfy I love them and almost want to trade with you! I agree with @Amy Fashion Blog-you cna make it work for even hot weather (although what I am saying it's -30 Celcius here!) Thanks so much for your sweet comment-it means a lot! xo Em
ReplyDeleteThat's the hardest time in the challenge.Out of ideas but still plenty of days. But keep on,it will get better!Keep on layering and accessorizing!
ReplyDeleteOk...so I'm super jealous because I reeeally want to go to universal!!! And this looks really cute with the scarf styled like that!
ReplyDeleteHi! You look so adorable today! I love how the scarf really elongates the entire look and brings it together. CUTE SHOES! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThe scarf totally changes the black on black outfit...love it. I definitely think you can break the 30 x 30 for Universal!! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteLoooove ths scarf!
ReplyDeleteSometimes a graphic scarf and bright colored belt is all you need to make a sleek and chic outfit. I really like it. Pattern mixing is all well and fun, but a simply well put together outfit is just perfect in my book.
ReplyDeleteI love when accessories punch up a basic outfit! Accessories can take an outfit to a whole new level and that's exactly what you did! I love the belted scarf and the red accessories. Another great outfit girl, you're doing great in the challenge!
ReplyDeleteI say not fainting in the heat is more important than sticking to the style rules. I really like your look (I may have to copy it!)
ReplyDeleteI love belted scarves, and you pulled this off perfectly! Even better that the belt adds a pop of color! You look awesome!
ReplyDeleteooh, I absolutely love this outfit! My favorite color combo!
ReplyDeleteCute scarf and I love the accents of red!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comment, Melissa- you look fab today too! What a great and versatile scarf! Have fun at Universal- I'm just a LITTLE bit jealous ;)
ReplyDeleteHave you learned nothing from Angelina Jolie and spy movies (and especially spy movies starring Angelina Jolie?) Black on black on black is WAY cool.
ReplyDeleteAnd...you look so pretty in that first picture. It's your smile, I'm pretty sure! :)
I like how you've belted your scarf! It's fantastic. And I love your poses, so cute!
ReplyDeleteHave fun at Universal. that 80 temp sounds amazing!
80 degrees, wow! I would totally understand if you have to take a day off the 30 for 30 in order to be dressed for that hot weather. And I was complaining about 60-something degree temps...lol.
ReplyDeleteI love this look! I haven't tried the belt over scarf look, but you are inspiring me to try finally it : )
Sometimes, it's all about the accessories! Love the belted scarf :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun this weekend!!
Not boring at all! I think this is adorable.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely take the day off for the trip to Universal. You don't have to do the 30 outfits in 30 consecutive days. Give yourself a break! :)
Oh la! Look at that pose with the raise leg - sexy Mamacita!
ReplyDeleteI love alll black outfits. In fact, I wouldn't mind piling on a black belt with that but of course, looks so much better with the pop of red!
besos,
ML

Love the scarf tied this way. Hope you have a great dat at Universal tomorrow. I haven't been there in ages and ages. Hey, you think your daughter will get all the movie references? I have never thought of taking mine there as I always look at that park as a more older kid/adult place.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous of your weather! What about wearing your easy breezy blue dress with the leopard flats? that seems comfortable?
ReplyDeleteMelissa~ I love the checkered scarf. It reminds me of a picnic lunch (esp. with your other red accessories), which would be perfect on these warmer days you're having!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! And very figure flattering! Love the fun scarf too.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little late in commenting as the post in a day old, but compliments should be shared when they are true. You look great! I love the sophistication from the dark colors and white, but the "pop" elements give it some personality and spunk! Great mix.
ReplyDeleteThe all black is what lets the accessories be a showcase. It all works together to create a great outfit!
