This outfit is a prime example of why something that is slimming isn't necessarily better. It drives me crazy when people say "don't wear horizontal stripes because they make you look bigger" or "don't wear this type of cut because it's not very slimming." Just because something makes you look slimmer doesn't mean it makes you look better overall.
This skirt is not very slimming on me at all, but this outfit makes me happy anyway! Every single part of this outfit (except for the booties and the cardigan) is out of code. It's a good thing I don't have any meetings today. And my boss isn't here. Heh. {Uh...except I just realized that I have a deliver a packet to one of our board members. Whoops.}
I have something to tell you about! The ever adorable Hope from Hope and the Dress Code and I have teamed up to create what we're calling Fabulous In February: A Month of Positivity. We've decided that too many of us tend to be very negative towards ourselves and we believe that if everyone was more positive, the entire world would be a better place.
So here is our challenge: Each Monday in February beginning on the 7th (because Mondays always seem the most negative, so we want to change that!), we are challenging all of YOU to include in your regular blog post three positive things about yourself - every Monday, three new things. They can be physical aspects, something you're good at, something for which you're grateful about yourself (no being grateful for things that you have, this is to be positive just about who and what you are), anything that brings positivity to YOU. Hope and I will each have a place to link up every Monday so we can all join in the positive goodness together!
If you don't write your own blogs, my challenge to you is to leave a comment on these posts with your three positive things!
I am SO excited about this! I really think this will do so much to change everyone for the better!
PS - Have you voted for Collette today? I voted twice from both my personal and work emails!
Today's outfit:
Gold Skirt: Target (clearance!)
Leopard Blouse: Salvation Army
Black Cardigan: Kohl's
Purple Belt: Salvation Army
Purple Tights: Charlotte Russe
Black Booties: Payless
Necklace: Gift from ML
Ring: Forever 21
I love it. I never play by the fashion rule. You should so put this out in rules are lame.

ReplyDeleteTotally love the leopard blouse! Reminds me to get out and second hand shop more often!
ReplyDeleteFunky and fresh and Im loving it....another great outfit.....I was just telling myself on the way to work that I need to get some leopard for the 30x30...and here you are in animal print....its a sign:0 Im going shopping after work!! I may even dash into the LOFT to see if they have any goodies for my Saturdays!! lol
ReplyDeleteI even hate the word "slimming". I have an irrational irk about it.
ReplyDeleteYou look great and well put together in this outfit.
I love the positivity idea! It's definitely something I need right now!
ReplyDeleteAnd very cute outfit. I love the purple tights!
I think this is a great combination. I really love the booties with the purple tights.
ReplyDeleteooh such a cute outfit. Loving the purple tights, belts, and shoes! Lovely. As for people and there comments about certain things not being slimming? I am totally with you. I don't pay much attention to that either. It's about wearing what makes you happy! xx veronika
ReplyDeletePurple always makes me happy...it's just such a cheery color. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI am so on board for the month of positive thinking. I have been less than cheerful the last couple of days, and that might just be the little kick in the rear that I need :)
One of the people on What Not To Wear made some comment about "Beauty is never Age-Inappropriate"... so I'm going with "Feeling Great is ALWAYS slimming!" Whether or not the skirt applies to the usual rules of "slimming", if you feel great in it, you'll carry you're self better, and that's way more important than following rules!
ReplyDeleteAmazing outfit! I love everything about it . . .seriously! I can't wait to join in on your month of positivity!! It'll go great with the 30x30 challenge I'm doing next month. Have a great day!

Fashion rules are best when they're broken. :) I ADORE this outfit too!!! The colors are fabulous, and the layering rocks! I'm totally with you about how people get about horizontal stripes or "unflattering" cuts! And how awesome that you and Hope are organizing this!! Definitely count me in! :)

What a fun combo today! Love the purple legs. Can't wait for Mondays now!
ReplyDeleteOOoo what a pretty leopard blouse! Absolutely love it with the purple.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of blogging positive! It is true that all of us tend to be hard on ourselves and dwell on the things we don't like about ourselves when we should be thinking about the things that make us who we are; the things that everyone else loves about us but we don't always see ourselves. Such a wonderful idea, kudos to you ladies!!
SUCH a great idea! We tend to focus so much on our so-called faults that we sometimes forget to count our blessings. I'm in!
ReplyDeleteFab top! Sounds like a wonderful movement to introduce more positivity into your life. Congrats, Melissa!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you don't pay too much attention to fashion rules because you look amazing in that outfit! I love how you can see a bit of the pattern on the blouse and the pop of color from the purple tights.
ReplyDeleteHope you didn't get into any trouble today :) I really like the patterned shirt!
ReplyDeleteI love that. Out of code. Thank goodness I don't work under the close scrutiny of my boss. It would be a very unfashionable job. Nice tights!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a spunky and fun outfit! First off you look great. And I agree with you about "slimming" clothing - sometimes we just have to toss it and say "who cares, I feel great in this!" and in the end, I bet we end up looking better because we love what we're wearing.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is awesome! Love the top and the cardigan, and of course the purple tights. I've been a little schlumpy lately so I welcome this fun (and inspiring) challenge in February! :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! Purple is awesome! And then with the leopard, even better!! Gosh, I need some purple tights!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sweet comment!
