Daily MelWear: Outfit 2/30

So, yeah, this whole "using a timer with a real, honest-to-goodness camera instead of my iPhone" thing didn't work out so well for me today. I have no idea how to get the pictures to look better. I don't know how to mess with the camera settings so that the focus is better, I can't really mess with the lighting because I'm pretty much stuck with what's in the room. But we have pictures! Yay for pictures!

I just want a personal photographer with a DSLR. Can someone work that out for me, please? That'd be great, thanks.

I'm so excited to meet all of the new-to-me bloggers through the 30 For 30 Challenge! I've already met some really fantastic people with fabulous style and I can't wait to meet more of you!

You guys, I feel like I don't fit in right now because you're all bundled up in your cute, cozy, comfy sweaters and bright tights and pretty scarves...then here I am with my bare legs and short sleeves because it's 80 degrees here today. I really only have four pieces with short sleeves; two dresses, the black sweater I wore yesterday and then a silky (ish...) blouse. I'm thinking I should have thought this through better. Whoops.

Tomorrow should only be 68, but then it's back up to 79 on Friday. Let's make up our mind, shall we? I'd like it to be a little bit cooler for a little bit longer. Please and thank you.

Wow, this post seems to be filled with a whole lotta begging.

Today's outfit:
Purple Dress: Plato's Closet
Gold Belt: Charlotte Russe
Leopard Flats: Target
Necklaces: Gifts from ML
Ring: Forever 21
Leopard Headband: Icing

  1. I love the way your accessorized your dress! Fabulous flats :)

DSLRs take some practice...what settings are you using?

  2. Can you get someone to stand in for you when you hit the timer button? On my camera that's when it actually focuses - so timer pictures without a remote or someone to focus on never work - big bummer.

  3. Ahhh 80 degrees! Believe me you wouldn't want this cold for much more than a day. You could wear you pretty dresses ;)

  5. You look super cute. I'm also trying my best to check out the 30 for 30 list. My work schedule is nuts so it make it hard to look at everyone but I'm going to try to do it.

  6. So cute...I love the color of that dress and how you paired it with the gold belt and leopard flats...I so wish I had a personal photographer with an awesome camera too...oh, and better lighting than my crappy apartment haha!

  7. Such a great look! Taking your own pics is NOT easy! you'll get better at it! I just got a new camera but still no DSLR/remote so I have to still play with the settings.

  8. What a pretty royal purple dress! I like the leopard print flats to mix things up. Cute poses!

  9. Awesome dress! I love how you used accessories with it. I'm sure that dress will serve you well during your 30x30.

  10. Love the purple and leopard! Such a fresh combination.

  11. Love the hair bow and that necklace is too gorgeous!!!
It's been really nice here too but still much cooler than where you are. We have been in the low 60's, but that's like our equivalent of 75 :)

  12. I'm a huge fan of your purple and leopard. If it makes you feel any better, it's about 75 here.
As far as the camera, I usually focus it where I'll be standing before I set up the timer.

  13. I struggle with my camera too and I face the same problems!Nice easy outfitand i like the shoes a lot.The whole look is so much Melissa!!!

  14. unfortunately the focus is focusing on the background when you hit the timer button. it's actually really hard to fix this problem without having like a cardboard cutout of something life-size for when you push the timer button.

maybe invest in a camera that supports a remote?

i do love the purple dress and the cute flats!

  15. We all have our off days with photography - it may not be the DSLR, it may not be the timer, some days, I think there's some external force being like: "ya, you're not taking clear pictures today!".

You could stick a colourful picture on the doors at about face height to give the camera something more closer to human colouring to help it focus, and then remember to stay as close to the wall as comfortable.

I am lusting after your temperatures... never say it should cool down in winter!!! I told my fiancé last night that I felt I should meet some of the people that I blog with in person, and he pretty quickly realized I was just looking for an excuse to go to the land of the bearable winter!!

  16. SWEET SOUTHERN WEATHER, look at my friends leggies!!! YES.

I use the self timer and about 3/4 of my photos turn out fuzzy. Kileen said it's because the background is what is in focus when you're self-timing. Grr.

  17. Oh man, I had camera issues too and like you I know nothing about them. My husband is an excellent photographer, but I can't have him spend his time following me around for clothes pictures! Did you see the remix list? It's like 100's long!!!
    Great dress with accessories!

  18. Love this look!!!

I'll be in FL for the weekend. Please ask the 80 degree weather to stick around! :)

  19. It's been great meeting you, too, Melissa! We'll have to have coffee over blog sharing at some point. Oh, and I know what you mean: I already have my DSLR piggy bank going, and a plot to get my husband in a picture-taking mood everyday for the rest of his life. :) Great dress!

  20. Ooh PURPLE! I'm loving purple right now...as evidenced by the boatloads of it that are in my 30x30. I don't have a cute drapey purple dress, though. What fun! Stop by and say hi on my blog this month if you get a sec--I love meeting new people.

  21. It's harder than it looks using that timer, isn't it! I so wish I had a PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER (strike that) HUSBAND that could (strike that) WOULD take them for me! :) You'll get it down before you know it. I'm so glad you're participating in the 30/30. I'm not quite ready to...maybe Summer?

  22. Love the whole look, simple yet elegant.

  23. M, I don't know if anyone already mentioned this, I'm at work trying to sneak in a post or two... (Shh...) My camera won't really know where to focus so I press the button down halfway for it to focus on the thing I'll be right in front of, such as a wall.

It's not perfect but it's better than totally blurry. Practice makes perfect! Cute purple dress, btw:)

  24. Love the purple! Where are you that its so warm? Its -10 here today!!

  25. Wowza, I love all the metals with the leopard print flats. I wish!! I could be running around in little short sleeve dresses. Hell, I'm thinking about running away to Florida for a holiday from the snow (I wish!).

Kasmira has some information about taking indoor photos: http://whatiwore2day.blogspot.com/2010/02/mail-bag-indoor-outfit-photos.html

I try to follow it when taking them inside. But it's got some useful info. She's also got a few tips and tricks here: http://whatiwore2day.blogspot.com/2007/12/photographing-your-outfits-camera.html

  26. Adorable. For me the headband is the perfect finishing touch to this outfit.

For taking pics of myself, since my hubby is not good at it (haha) I couldn't live without my tripod and remote ! But the timer should really be longer, I totally agree.

  27. very cute outfit!

wouldn't it be fun if we all lived close to each other and we could take each other's photos?

My husband gets SO ANNOYED when I ask him to take my pics. LOL

  28. Love the outfit to day! Also, I wore my leopard flats today as well.

  29. this sounds dumb, but what used to work for me was the Landscape setting on the dial on the top of a point and shoot, and then being REALLY STILL. lololol. <3

  30. I love the purple and gold together. You look luxurious and potentially royal! Getting the timer photos right is tricky. I'm still working on it but usually if I turn on every light in the house and place the tripod at the exact right place and put the setting to portrait or sometimes indoor that seems to work ok. Also if you do manage to get a photographer, I will pay you in cookies and silly dances to share him! (of course, he'll spend the majority of the time travelling!)

  31. Love all the little leopard touches with that cute dress...cannot wait to see how you are going to remix it. I am so jealous of your warmth, I am living in layers.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Love the leopard flats- a pair like that has been on my wishlist for awhile now!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'll trade your 80 degree weather for my 30 degree weather at any time! I feel your pain about the photography, too! I use a self-timer and my ironing board as a tripod. Not ideal, but it's about as good as I can do for now.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think I've told you this before, but that purple is a fantastic color on you...and the leopard print touches are perfect :)

    Oh, 80 degrees...how I miss you!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I want warm weather and bare legs...like now.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I totally wish I had a personal photographer too! It would make life so much easier : )

Purple is a great color on you!

  37. Your shoes are so super cute!

I'm trying to stifle my jealousy because we're buried under two inches of solid ice here in Dallas, and it's not supposed to break freezing until Saturday and everyone is super cranky and bitchy and rude and dreaming of living in Florida like you do, lucky girl. If I was there I'd be rocking the short sleeves too! You look really great.

I would love a DSLR...a girl can dream.

(Thanks for your comment on my blog letting me know I'm showing up in Google reader. Huge relief!)

  38. Oh gosh, if you find the way to get a free, non-creepy personal photographer let me know! Doing my own pictures is less than ideal some days! I just wanted to drop by and thank you for all the support you gave during my move and appologize for being a less than dedicated blog reader lately. This moving business sure does take up a lot of time! Hope all is well, and I hope to be dropping by more often

  39. Be glad you don't have to bundle up in layer upon layer that you can't get your arms into your puffy coat! :) I was thinking about staying inside until May this morning as I was digging through 3 foot snow drifts!
    And, adorable outfit as always!

  40. I think they look great, try setting the ISO as high as possible, this will make them brighter! Just mess around with different settings in the manual not auto modes! You'll get it!

  41. i've been having camera drama too, but hopefully we'll both get it figured out one of these days!! :)

  43. jealous of your weather (I live in Florida too but not during the school year :()Love that purple dress- you look fabulous in it and it looks great with that necklace. Keep up the great work with 30x30!

  44. fabulous, fabulous dress on you! love seeing a little skin...it's warm here too.
try taping a piece of paper (with big words/letters on it) to the wall behind you. this should give the camera something to focus on until you step in front of it.
