SheCon Lovely: Julie Meyers Pron

The SheCon Lovely feature is my way of introducing my readers to the new friends that I made while attending SheCon '11 in Miami, Florida in May. Rather than doing one post with only my thoughts on the conference and telling you about those that I met, I thought it would be more fun for you to read opinions from more people while meeting them firsthand through a guest post.

To read what the previous SheCon Lovelies had to say, click here.

Also, one of the sponsors at SheCon sent me something that I'm giving away on my Facebook Page - go check it out!

Today we're meeting Julie from Just Precious!

Me, Julie and Cynthia at the Bailey's Creamer booth - Photo Op because we're all wearing turquoise!
*Tell us a little about yourself and your blog.
Julie Meyers Pron, http://Just-Precious.com/, @justprecious, http://about.me/juliemeyerspron I like to call Just Precious a “response” blog, as I respond to life and tell all its stories. It’s evolved into a place for moms to find ways to make their lives a little easier, thereby allowing themselves to “enjoy the precious in parenting.” As a parenting blogger, I can really blog about anything, but I primarily write about organization, education, tips for daily living, mom fashion (which I’ve dubbed “Mom Chic”) and cooking.

I also write for the Sci-Child blog, Playdation blog, I’m a Parenting Guru at Shine and have a few other “gigs.”

*Have you been to any other blogging or social media conferences before? If so, which ones?
Blogher, Yahoo Mother Board Summit, Bloggy Boot Camp Philadelphia (speaker), Mom 2.0:; I’m slated to speak at Blogher11

*What were some of your reasons for attending SheCon?
Curious about a new conference, was able to go with friends and be sponsored by Clever Girls Collective to represent them on a recruiting trip.

*Who were your favorite speakers and why?
Guy Kawasaki is just incredible. Murray I gave simple tips on keyword searching in video that were helpful (my goal for conferences in 2011 is to learn more about incorporating video into my every day blogging), Missy Ward, who packed a conference worth of tips into her 1-hour presentation and Danielle Liss' legal presentation.

Guy Kawasaki
*What do you think is the most important thing you learned from the SheCon presentations?
I learned so much about contract law from Danielle Liss. I had a lot of questions regarding reading (and signing) contracts before I went and it was a thrill to have so many of these questions answered.

*What do you think is the most important thing you learned from the conference as a whole?
I wouldn’t say I learned it at this conference, but it was definitely reaffirmed: time spent getting to know people, networking, is far more valuable for me than time sitting behind the computer.

*What were your favorite events/activities?
Cupcakes with the Clever Girls, of course! {Editor's note: ME TOO! And also the pizza they provided on Thursday night!} And video interviewing Dara Torres. THAT was a thrill. She's a beautiful, REAL woman. A role model in so many ways.

SO yum. So very, very yum!
Seriously, those were HUGE pizzas.
*What advice would you give to someone who has never attended a conference and is considering one in the future?
Bring business cards, an open mind and comfortable clothing (including a sweater for indoors) and make sure that you get out there and talk to everyone. (This next part is true in life, especially in life in blogging.) If you want to do something, if you have an idea, don’t be nervous or afraid of the consequences. Bring it up and share your idea. Otherwise, it will always sit inside you.

Huge thanks to Julie for sharing her thoughts with us! She also co-hosts a Fashion Friday Link-Up and I can attest to the fact that Julie has great style!

Hope you all have a fantastic Friday and an even better weekend!
