Thursdays are usually our casual/jeans days at work, but I'm not a jeans kind of girl (have you noticed?). When my boss {in her jeans and t-shirt} saw me when I walked in, she said "Oh you're all dressed up!" like it was a bad thing. Huh. Honestly I am just much more comfortable in this than I would be in jeans. Although I would probably prefer sandals but I need a new pedicure first. :)
Let me tell you about this skirt. This is the first time I've worn it as a skirt. It can double as a tube dress and that's how I've worn it the past couple of times (most recently to SheCon, the night we went to karaoke - you can see it in this post, it's the last photo!). This dress is SO comfortable and seeing how well it works as a skirt too, I'm smitten. I need more in every single color! Plus, the ruffled tiers! Fun AND not a pattern so it's actually within dress code! YAY!
Okay I'm done gushing.
How's your week turning out for you so far?
And, just out of curiosity (because I've already done my shopping - rare for me to do it early!), what are you all doing for your husbands/fathers for Father's Day this Sunday?
Black Skirt: Ross
Purple Top: Charlotte Russe
Bow Belt: Stein Mart (came with a blazer)Leopard Heels: Payless
Necklace: Charlotte Russe
I love your idea of turning your dress into a skirt! It is absolutely adorable with the ruffles and the bow! And you are wearing purple - my favorite color!
ReplyDeleteI am a procrastinator this year so far for Father's Day. Guess I better get out there and go get something for dad and the hubby!
That skirt is quite fun, and I love that you can wear it so many different ways. My favorite thing about this outfit is the belt - I'm a bow girl and it just fits with the tiered skirt perfectly! My coworker HATES the words "you're all dressed up today" and always takes it as a bad thing. I just assume that they are feeling bad that they don't look as good as me. And as you pointed out, your boss was in a TSHIRT, so I think you should assume that too! :)
ReplyDeletein love with those shoes! :) i'm taking my dad out to dinner and mini-golf for father's day.... nothing for the hubby.
ReplyDeleteI love love love your necklace!!
ReplyDeleteI usually turn skirts into dresses, I've never though of doing it the other way around!! hmmm....
My family lives like 4 hours away and I have to work Sunday :(. But, my family is coming to visit the end of this month (the first time in Chicago!) so I'm going to give him something then. I just don't know what yet!

I think this may be a skirt that even I could pull off. Too cute! I got my husband an iPod docking station for his car. For my Dad, I wrote him a sweet letter along with a picture. I try to keep it as simple as possible. What did you get for the men in your life?

That skirt is awesome. I totally want it.
ReplyDeleteGirl, I haven't even started my Father's Day shopping. I think I'm going to make beef jerky, though. I mean . . . that's pretty manly. And I'll package it cute, or something.
We'll see.

I can see why you love that skirt, I'd be twirling all day in it ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I did take them, just the other day. I realized that living in Chicago, I'm always going to look like a tourist because I'll always have my camera! Lol.
ReplyDeleteThe Whimsy Factory
You know it's always better to be dressed up than under dressed. I love the dress as skirt.
ReplyDelete...need a pedicure too. :)
I would have never guessed that your skirt was that dress...way to stretch your wardrobe!! I agree with casual work days, I am more comfortable in a skirt also! Love this outfit on you!!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! love the versatility!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI bought "the boy" some new church clothes and will take him and the kids out for lunch on Sunday for Father's Day. :o)
absolutely gorgeous! xoxo
ReplyDeleteGorgeous outfit! The skirt, the belt, the shirt... You look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAs for the hubs, I got him a new cell phone and a pillow that stays cold. Ha, I know. We're practical in this house. lol I may try to do some pictures of the kids with the letters DAD, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. As for my dad, he recently bought a Harley, so I'll probably get him something motorcycle related.
Adorable as a skirt and a dress! I'm a sucker for ruffles. So cute!
ReplyDeleteI also asked my viewers this week about their office attire and those who had casual (jeans mon-fri) said they were tired of it! I've also worn a smocked dress as a skirt too! This look is adorable! www.bravoerunway.com
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know what you mean. I have the hardest time dressing casual. I only wear jeans every now and then, but I feel more comfortable in more elegant outfits like the pretty one you are wearing today! The black dress looks great as a skirt btw!
ReplyDeleteI love the skirt too - great way to remix your closet! Your bow belt is absolutely darling too :)
ReplyDeleteI love the shiny shirt. I have a hard time shopping for my Dad, so I usually buy him dinner.
ReplyDeleteOn jeans days, I just jump for joy when I get dressed. It means it's Friday and I only have to survive 8 more hours of eye rolling, bad excuses, 13 year old drama, parent phone calls, etc.
ReplyDeletePS- I never give my dad a Father's day gift! He gets mad when I do. He just likes that made a trip up to see him! :)
cute outfit and great DIY
ReplyDeleteNeat post!

I don't wear jeans very often either.I love the skirt, looks really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI am cooking a family meal for fathers day with children and in laws. My Dad is out of the country, sailing so I won't get to see him or send him a card, but I know he is happy!
The skirt is an adorable transitional piece. I'd rather someone be dressed up than dressed down.
ReplyDeleteD and I bought his dad some candy and a card. We may go out for dinner with him too, but that hasn't solidified yet. As my dad's out of the picture, I'll probably see a movie with my mom this weekend.
we're having both of our families over for lunch and swimming. :)
ReplyDeleteI got my honey some polo shirts (his request) and a fishing rod from the baby and dog. :)
Thanks for the comment, Melissa! Yeah, I didn't even realize how out of sync I had gotten. It has been neat hearing about your adventures at SheCon. I should sign up for a blogger conference myself soon. :)
ReplyDeleteAww, the love the fluffy skirt and bow belt! So adorable! I used to get the whole "you're so dressed up" thing a lot, but now they're used to my never wearing jeans, haha! Though that's not entirely true, because I DO wear jeans. Just not very often... As for father's day gifts, I have no idea. I'm such a procrastinator!
ReplyDeleteI love how you're wearing that dress as a skirt! The ruffles are a fun touch. Also, that belt is divine!
ReplyDeleteAnd I hate when people assume that jeans are the most
comfortable thing in the world - because they're really not. Give me a skirt any day!
haha girl!!! i am not a jeans wearing type of girl either hehe :)
ReplyDeleteClever to wear it as a skirt. You look great as always. I find people jealous of you make a comment 'you are all dressed up' sound negative while people who are true friends will always compliment you even if they never dress up. I simply ignore the first group by saying 'I am always dressed up'.
ReplyDeleteLets see, the biggest gift we are giving my husband is a huge 'day off'. He has plans to play tennis in the morning then go to happy hour and drinks with his fellow daddy friends.
For *my* dad, we are taking him to a brunch cruise with all the grand kids. And going bowling in the afternoon for my Step Dad. I got small gifts but as you probably saw on my post from Monday had to kids make super cute cards for each of them and glued photos of them with my kids etc...

You look super adorable...I love versatile items that can be worn many ways :)
ReplyDeleteYou look fab! That dress seems like the perfect thing. Don't you just hate when people call you "fancy" or "dressed up" as an insult? I look the way I look. I don't make comments about their ripped sweatpants... although I could!
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit. The belt is super adorable.

I love how you're wearing the dress as a skirt and that necklace is beautiful! I own maybe 3 pairs of jeans and rarely wear them, I much prefer to dress up! My Dad lives across the country from me and since we are having a postal strike in Canada he probably won't get his gift in time for Father's Day :(
ReplyDeleteNo way, that's a dress too, how versatile. It makes a georgeous skirt on you ! Love the purple top, it's perfect for your skintone !
ReplyDeleteI love that bow belt! I am the same as you when it comes to casual clothes at work..I dress up over going casual and I get the same reaction, but dressing up makes me happy so I just roll with it :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you may have found the holy grail of skirts. I am wondering if A-lines are going to be more available now because I have seen a few bloggers picking them up. It was so hard to find one for awhile there. I love pencil skirts but I also like variety. I love your belt, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a really sweet skirt! Lovely!
ReplyDeleteSomehow I missed this post before, but now that I have found it I can see why we must be style sisters! That is an adorable skirt.
ReplyDeleteI am such a fan of any article of clothing that can pull double duty...especially something that looks this adorable on you!
ReplyDeleteI'm switching my flex day at work, meaning I'll have Mondays off now, and at our suburban office, Fridays are casual. Meaning I may be hitting the office jeans up starting this week...
