FBFF: What's In Your Suitcase?

{Opening side note: This weekend is JAM-PACKED! My ex-husband and I are taking our daughter to Disney for Star Wars weekends today, then tomorrow is her birthday party, then Sunday is her actual birthday and we're taking her to a dinner show at Disney. I may not get around to checking your blogs out but I'm certainly going to try!!!)

If you've seen the Friend Friday posts but aren't quite sure what they're about,  click here to read all about it and here to meet Katy, the creator!

Katy writes: "Now that summer is in full swing here… and vacations are coming up, let’s talk about what you’re packing to take on vacation."

1. When it comes to packing for vacation what’s your mantra?
Try not to pack so much that I can't lift the suitcase by myself! Good thing mine have wheels. Of course that doesn't help me much when I'm trying to get it from the driveway into my car.

2. What are your must packs?
Do body wash and deodorant count? Because I need to have those. {Obviously. And if you don't need those things, remind me to never vacation with you.} My clothing must packs include a bathing suit cover up that can double as a dress (I have a denim tube dress that I usually wear, but I also have a pink tube maxi dress that I just bought), a sweater/cardigan in case the hotel room gets chilly, comfy stuff to wear to bed and something cute in case we go out to dinner. Although to be entirely honest, the only "vacation" I have planned for this summer is really just two nights and one full day at the beach with family. Don't have to pack much for that.

3. What are you happy to leave behind?
JEANS. And any kind of pants, really. It's no secret that I'm a dress kind of girl so for a weekend at the beach and no need for jeans, I'm happy.

4. Any packing secrets that help you get everything into one suitcase?
Um...one suitcase? That's it? Why on earth would you limit yourself to one? Okay here's a packing secret - don't go on a vacation that's more than a couple of days. That'll help. Otherwise, I've got nothin' for you.

5. Beach reading… what are you taking with you to read in the sand?
Yeah, I have a four-year-old...I don't read in the sand. I either play with her or I watch her like a hawk. If I get a few rare minutes to myself at the beach, they're spent with my eyes closed, soaking in the sun.

And now *I* have a few questions for YOU, my friends!

1. It seems like summer vacations are typically spent at the beach. Are there other places that you prefer to visit during the summer?
2. If you could choose one place to visit and money was no object, where would you go?
3. What is your absolute favorite summer vacation memory?
4. What's the funniest vacation story you have?

  1. I love questions! Here I go:

1.Are there other places that you prefer to visit during the summer? Yes! I love taking day trips to pretty towns to go shopping or get ice cream. I love doing hiking/picnic trips with the beau.
    2. If you could choose one place to visit and money was no object, where would you go? Europe! Specifically Paris and anywhere in Italy.
    3. What is your absolute favorite summer vacation memory? Any cottage. I love cottage life.
    4. What's the funniest vacation story you have? I booked us in the worst hotel in the world in the prettiest city. Even our waitress wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pool. It was good for lots of laughs!

  2. The beach isn't all that appealing to me, I can take it or leave it. My vacations usually lead me to different places every year, I want to do it all: National Parks, New York, cruises, spa-cations, stay cations, anything! If money were not an option, I'd go to Israel and stay for about two weeks and take some of my friends and family with me. I want to walk where Jesus walked, and I heard they also have nice beaches there. It would definitely be interesting to see.

  3. These are fun!
    1. Just want to spend time anywhere near the water. At the beach, on a boat, it doesn't matter. I am a Pisces.
    2. Hawaii or Ireland
    3. 2 years ago we went to the Florida Keys and it was absolutely beautiful.
    4. Camping trip, a huge bug flew at us. I mean this was HUGE! Me and the girls were screaming. The campground must have thought we were nuts.

  4. *Sigh* Disney again, eh?

    1. We go to the beach because it's cheap. We can stay at my grandparents' house for free! :)
    2. If I could visit anywhere, I'd head to Europe for the summer. I'd love to see the sights, visit the Greek islands, etc.
3/4. Funniest vacation memory? The first day of our honeymoon, Miles and I got to Mackinac Island and it was SO COLD and SO WINDY we couldn't open our car doors (literally). We looked at each other and said, "Crap. We should have gone to Disney!" We figured it was Mother Nature's way of telling us to slow down and enjoy each other's company instead of rushing around to visit everything right at that moment (which is what I wanted to do). The weather did get better, but we were worried that first day!

  5. LOL at your answer to #2! =)

    1. It seems like summer vacations are typically spent at the beach. Are there other places that you prefer to visit during the summer? No, I'm a beach girl through and through. =)
    2. If you could choose one place to visit and money was no object, where would you go? Probably Hawaii. I've only been there once when I was in college and would absolutely LOVE to visit there with my hubby and the kids.
    3. What is your absolute favorite summer vacation memory? That would have to be my honeymoon to Mexico. My guy & I spent an entire day snorkeling, lounging around the beach drinking and eating chips & salsa and wandering the streets of Cozumel.
    4. What's the funniest vacation story you have? Our vacations are normally full of funny stories! We have a running joke that something always goes wrong for us, but we always make the best of it. =) When we were on our babymoon with our first, the walls of our room were paper thin and we could hear the guy next to us SNORING! And it was a nice hotel, too! We got a voucher to stay there for free and now it's our favorite place to stay on getaways. lol

Sorry for rambling on and on . . . but you did ask! lol

  6. I tend to visit other cities in the US during the summer, since I like to sight see when the weather is nice. My family doesn't have a lake place, so no beaches here.

  7. I don't go to the beach for vacation so that was a hard one about reading on the beach. DC. Museums. Hiking. Parks. Amusement Parks = places I think of.

    2. I don't know. Last year I wanted to go to the beach but this year I'm not as happy with my body and not as happy with the sun so I don't want to go.

3 and 4. Don't really have any. we didn't really go on vacation

  8. 1. It seems like summer vacations are typically spent at the beach. Are there other places that you prefer to visit during the summer?

Yes, caves! Living in Middle Tennessee gave me the opportunity to check out caves sites from the touristy Rock City and Ruby Falls to the KY Cave City.

    2. If you could choose one place to visit and money was no object, where would you go?

London. No real reason other than I love old buildings, and I love libraries. I imagine I could find both in one spot.

    3. What is your absolute favorite summer vacation memory?

My best summer "vacations" were spent in an under construction house (my grandfather flipped houses) and with my nose in a book. Usually the Harry Potter ones growing up.

    4. What's the funniest vacation story you have?

Funniest... Hmm, Most of them weren't funny but I did get caught in a huge downpour numerous times on trips and it's always a bit exhilarating to be caught in them.

  9. Here I go
    1. If I don't get to go to a sunny destination in the winter, I will most likely go to the beach in the summer. I usually stay away from cities because they usually are very hot in the summer. So anywhere else goes !
    2. Can I say a world wide Cruise !!!! I have too many. I just want to experience everything the world has to offer.
    3. Fave vacation would be my honeymoon 5 years ago in Cuba. We visited Havana wich is amazing, swim with the dolphins and had just the best time ever.
    4. Funny memories, couple of years ago we went to New Brunswick, Canada and a man was talking to us in their very unique french accent and we couldn't make out a single word, and french is our first language !

  10. good call on the swim cover up that doubles as a dress. great tip for packing for a beach weekend! i think i'm happiest when i'm by the sea, so i much prefer that over a lake/camping summer vacation. if money was no object, i'd be in the greek isles right now!

  11. Sounds like a jampacked weekend! Hope your little girl has a great birthday! :)

I love tropical vacations but I hate getting sunburnt :(

  12. While I like the beach I actually prefer to head down south to Memphis or other places with country charm. I also love the southwest and the desert (yes, even in the summer).
My absolute favorite vacation was the road trip my brother and I took when I moved from Los Angeles to Chicago 3 years ago. We took "the long way" (could it be any longer?) and stopped at the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, UT, Moab, Salt Lake City, Cheyenne, WY (for Frontier Days---"the granddaddy of all rodeos") and various other places along the way. We were in a packed car, ate lots of gross gas station food, and we rescued by the good folks at the Mexican Hat Motel somewhere in AZ.
    Good times.
