Actually, we're not even sure whether or not our boss will come in today or if she'll take a day to rest from her trip. Just in case, I wore one of my highest necklines!
Aaaaaaaaaand as I typed that, she pulled up. :) Yay for high necklines!
This is one example where I think booties that come higher up on the ankle cut off my leg line. I've said before that I kind of enjoy being short. I don't think it's a bad thing. I don't think tall automatically equals more beautiful so I don't focus too much on making sure I avoid things that camoflouge my shortness. However I'm not sure that cutting my legs in half is particularly attractive.
At any rate, I wore them with a shorter length dress so hopefully that helps a little. It's hard to see how great the red booties pop with the black and white outfit in these pictures, you can see the real shade of red in the close-up shot. I adore these shoes. I've never worn them with anything other than pants or jeans before so the cute details were never seen. Isn't that sad?
I've also realized that I'm going to have to invest in some slips. All of my tights are making my skirts and dresses ride up and that is NOT fun.
By the way, have you entered the giveaway yet? It ends on Sunday night!

I absolutely love this dress. Its adorable. I am fairly short too, and I dig it. I used to wear a lot of pinstripe slacks with high heels to disguise my shortness, but I gave up on that and now I just accept it and embrace it. Those booties are awesome. I don't own any cute booties yet. I think I said that the other day...but I do like them. And those are too cute, I am glad you a re finally wearing them with a dress so they can be seen. :)
ReplyDeleteI think you look darling and not too short at all! They way you wore dark tights with the booties is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI think you look amazing in this outfit sweets....I really love the tie on the sweater.....hopefully you will be boss free today:0

As a fellow shorty, I can sympathize. I think that's why I took so long to try booties out in the first place. My solution was to get a pair that are pretty close to my skin tone to cut down on the contrast and fool you into thinking I've got longer legs. That's the effect you've got going on here with the dark tights and dark red booties, so I think it works. Love the high neckline on you, too. The layering keeps it interesting.
ReplyDeleteAdorable! You look so great. I love the print and shape of the dress, the tie blouse and those booties are awesome!
ReplyDeleteslips are AWESOME! haha, I love them so much! I also really like this printed dress! And I'm also a shorty (5'3") and totally wish I were shorter! I love feeling little bitty!
ReplyDeleteGranted, it could be an issue with colour, but I thought your legs looked magically long, even with the boots!
ReplyDeleteYour stories of necklines reminded me of this summer, when one of the younger economists in my department wore an (uncharacteristic) tie every day one week when the regional head was having meetings in our building, and was rumoured to coming to introduce himself to our department. Four days this guy complained about being choked by his tie, but was determined to make a great first impression, since he wanted to be going places. The regional head did show up - on the 5th day that week, when my co-worker (who had the day off) stopped in to pick up something he left at the office - wearing board shorts, a football jersey, sandals and sunglasses.
I love how you winterized this dress. The tie neck blouse is perfect under a sheath!
ReplyDeletelove that dress!!! it's stunning and i love anything black and white.

I think because your shoes are a dark red it doesn't stumpify you at all. And I also like putting the long-sleeve shirt under the shift to make it winter appropriate. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit and very cute shoe. I don't own any red shoe.

This is such a pretty outfit !
ReplyDeleteI have a similar dress from Charlotte Russe that I could try to do a similar look with.
I am short too and it has never stopped me from anything.... plus I have always thought that being short makes me look younger. Then again, it's just me making myself feel better :)
Awwww, the little red booties! They are cute, and I'm glad they're out so that people can appreciate the details on them! Hooray for a fellow shortie, haha! I'm not too enamored with my height, though -- mainly because I can never reach anything! Ugh! Like cereal boxes I want (which for some reason are always on the top shelf -- WHY), the mixing bowls in my pantry, the hand bars on the subway...
ReplyDeleteMel - I've been slacking on reading your blog! Oops. But I have to say I love today's outfit. This dress is spectacular and I'm seeing it worn with a bright red scarf or a fun jacket as well. And those leopard print shoes in the previous post are to die for!!! - Katy

ReplyDeleteHey there sexy mama! You look fabulous Melissa. I think the black shoes and black tights elongate your legs. As a fellow shortie, I can totally relate!
ReplyDeletexoxo, Ashley
Gotta say, I love this print. I keep taking notes on how prints *should* be done because I really want to incorporate more into my daily wear. This is a great example.
