When I was composing this post in my mind, I was really excited to talk about our weekend (we had fun!) and my very first wardrobe challenge that I want to kick off in October.
But then life happened and now my mind is in other places. Please forgive my lack of excitement for today. I'm not sure it's going to get better any time soon but I certainly hope so.
For now, let's talk about today's outfit. The wonderful, gorgeous, kind and ever stylish Marilou of 20 York Street sent me a package full of fabulous pieces and I'm wearing two of the necklaces today. I can't wait to style some of the other items, they'll make their appearances soon, I'm sure. If you haven't ever checked out Marilou's blog, you really should. She has exquisite taste and is one of the most genuinely kind and thoughtful people I've ever met.
Now on to the October challenge. I've been wanting to come up with some kind of a style challenge for a while but just couldn't think of one. One of my friends sent me a Facebook message with an idea and I'm going to run with it (thanks Liz!). She suggested that since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it would be a neat challenge to somehow incorporate some pink item into every single outfit. This is doubly hard for me because I've been so anti-pink for so long that I don't have very much pink in my closet!
I've only known a handful of people touched by breast cancer, but I'm sure that every single person knows someone that has been affected by the disease. Too many people criticize fashion and style blogs for being shallow. I'd like to prove that there is more to me than just clothes.
So that's what I've decided to do. My talented husband created the graphic for this challenge and I'm calling it Blogging for Breast Cancer aWEARness. If you'd like to participate in the challenge, send me an email with your name and blog address so that I can start a list of participants. Make sure to grab the badge for your blog too.
I'm planning to start this Friday, on October 1st, so that gives you a few days to think about it and let me know! Anyone can join in later in the month too. Whenever you decide to join is fine, just let me know and I'll have a list that I can add to.
That's all I've got for today. Again, I'm sorry for the lack of excitement and I'm probably not going to be around much for a while other than posting to the blog. I'm reading your blogs, trying to keep up with what you're all up to, but I'm not able to comment very much right now. I'm not sure when I'll be back in full swing but for right now, please keep me in prayer. Thanks everyone!

Great challenge I am totally in!!! I may have to start after my trip, but I am totally in!!! Great idea! Keep your chin up, and don't worry about commenting just do it when you can. We all know life can be crazy!
ReplyDeleteI'll be with you in spirit (my mom went through treatment for early stage BC a few years ago) but since I own exactly one pink blouse and one pink necklace and I'm not allowed to shop this year, I don't think I'll be able to actually do the challenge.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit looks great and those are really awesome necklaces! What a cool idea for a challenge too! (Uh, I may need more pink though...) And no worries about the comments! I hope your day gets better!! :)
ReplyDeleteMelissa, what a great challenge idea! I think I'm going to play! That is such a creative idea, and I love your husband's badge :)
ReplyDeleteI'm in with the challenge!!! Add me, add me! :) Breast cancer awareness is something I strive to exude as often as possible and this is such a great way to do it! And yes, Marilou is absolutely incredible, genuinely sweet, super stylish and an awesome blogger! I'm so glad she awarded you today with the "I Love Your Blog" award! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Great little logo your husband created! And isn't ML the best? She's Canadian too, don't forget that LOL!! (Sorry I always like to point that out for some reason ;) )
ReplyDeleteI think that is such a great idea Melissa!! I think I could probably do it for a week. I've gotten rid of most of my pink stuff :( I'll let you know when I start.
ReplyDeleteOctober's my birthday month AND breast cancer loves to visit my family so I'm in.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I LOVE that necklace. The outfit just looks casual-chic and comfy.
BTW: you have an award at my blog (and this challenge had nothing to do with it so the timing is pretty funny to me).

LOVE your outfit..and the necklaces.....how beautiful...shes a very generous person indeed!! SO sorry you are not feeling well hunnie.....hang in there, I hope things get better!!
ReplyDeleteFYI...I am IN for this challenge....as my daughter would say "lets git it".....:)
Not sure how many days I can actually do it, but I will post "pink" when I can....:)
I will definitely join in - what a wonderful idea, Melissa! Luckily, I've grown to love pink recently and own more of the color, but this will still be a creative challenge. Thanks for thinking of it!
ReplyDeleteI hope your day picks up and turns around!
Clever idea Mel, I did two Charity events this week, one for the heart: Bike for Beats and another for Breast Cancer.
ReplyDeleteHmmnn.. pink? I guess its time to go shopping in the closet!
And you are very, very welcome. Btw, I LOVE YOUR BLOG:

That's a perfect top to wear the with longer necklaces - it looks so effortlessly chic. beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI have a decent amount of pink in my closet and it's my favorite color! It's for such a good cause, I'll try to join in :-)
Wonderful idea. I have my theme week going on, but I'll see if I can't sneak in some pink. (I love pink in small doses!)
ReplyDeleteSorry things are cropping up to distract you. Hang in there!
p.s. LOVE today's outfit. It's so flattering on you!
I think it's a wonderful idea! I'd love to join the challenge, but pink is about the only color I haven't come to terms with. I have 2 pink items period. But goodluck to everyone who participates. I'll be rooting for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI love that teal top. It looks like a beautiful backdrop for your necklaces.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great challenge! Many of my family members have suffered from or passed away due to breast cancer. I'm not sure whether I'll be able to join or not - depends on how flexible your definition of "pink" is. If hot pink or more red tones count, I'll bet I could do it after I get home in a few days and have access to my full wardrobe!
So sorry to hear that life is getting you down right now. I hope that everything is okay. Keep your beautiful smile on if you can.
Those pants look great on you!
ReplyDeleteYou October challenge is great...fashion is always a great way to bring attention the breast cancer!
A pink challenge? ummmm, count me in please, although I'm not sure if it will be much of a challenge for me ;)
ReplyDeleteAhhh I love it! What a neat idea! I will participate, but it won't be daily. My work dress code is pretty strict (ie: I can't wear anything that isn't company approved). Pink is not an option. And a lot of days I get home from work, exercise, and then spend the rest of the day in pajamas (shame, I know!).
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great Monday night!
What a great challenge!! I am in - but I only own a few pieces of pink clothing.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your challenge :).
ReplyDeleteFirst of all: great necklaces and great sweater! Love the outfit.
ReplyDeleteSecond: I loooove the idea behind your October challenge. I would like to participate, but I have very little pink as I'm also a bit anti pink. I think I could do a week of it, though.... Would that be an option?
You have such a friendly, welcoming smile! Cute outfit too!
ReplyDeleteTake care and I hope everything is OK!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your lovely note on my blog, Melissa. When life gets busy and stressful, it is so nice to have a word of encouragement, and your note did just that for me. And you, of all people, should not feel bad for delayed commenting! You have a full time job, AND you're a full time mom, AND you are active in your church AND you still manage to blog. You're a wonder!
ReplyDeleteAnd count me in for the breast cancer challenge! It will be a great way for us to remember this cause on a daily basis. And I do have a LOT of pink already!
You look gorgeous, as always. Those necklaces are stunning!
What a great idea! Count me in!
ReplyDeleteaha, found the additional info i was looking for! yes, i will participate as much as i possibly can!
ReplyDeletexoxo - extra prayers coming your way.
First of all hope things are working better your way.
ReplyDeleteSecondly I find your challenge a great idea and will participate from the 4th to the 10th of October(don't think I can strecht my pink items any longer.
