Daily MelWear: Let's Play A Game

...a game called "What's The Same and What's Different?"

Actually since both of these things are so incredibly obscure that I doubt anyone would care enough to figure them out, I'll just tell you. :)

The "same" item is the belt; it's the one that I wore yesterday. Not really a big deal considering I rewear all of my items hundreds of times, just not usually in a row.

The "different" item is my hair; I blow-dried it! I don't normally because it's really HOT in Florida (seriously, fall? The high is 90 today) but for some reason I felt the itch to dry it today.  Good thing too, because it actually was a little bit cooler today.  And by cooler, I mean like 70. I almost needed a jacket.

Don't judge; everyone in Florida pulls out their jackets and gloves as soon as it's 70 or below. Unless they recently moved from up north.  Then it'll take them a season or two but eventually, they'll convert to our ways of wussiness.
Anyway, I used to dry it every day but then I started taking too long to get started with my workouts in the mornings so I'd run out of time and figure since it's hot outside it didn't matter if my hair was wet.  I'm hoping it'll be cooler soon though, but with that means I'll need to get my act in gear to make sure I have time to dry my hair. This morning I did a quick workout and had just a few minutes to spare. Yay!

I've worn this dress several times but not usually with a belt because it has a gathered and defined waist already.  For some reason today I felt like the pattern needed to be broken up a bit, so the belt just felt right. I like the coverage that the black button-down provides and the yellow necklace peeking out from under the collar adds just a little bitty pop of color. It makes me happy.  This outfit actually turned out a little bit better than I'd expected.

Yay!

Today's outfit:
Dress: was my mom's
Black Shirt: NY&Co (YEARS ago - like 10 years or something, seriously)
Black Belt: Macy's (came with a dress)
Black Bow Pumps: Wal-Mart
Yellow Necklace: Wal-Mart

  1. Your hair looks gorgeous! I love this dress on you. I never would have known it was the same belt until you pointed it out. That's the beauty of accessories :)

  2. Super cute! I love that dress, and that yellow necklace is just perfect! Yeah, I wouldn't have noticed the belt was the same either. :)

  3. Hi Hunnie....Ill come to Florida and shop with you...for sure!! You look fabulous today!! Your hair is gorgeous!! But I can see what you are saying making total sense in the reasons you dont prefer to dry it:)

  4. Your hair looks great! Is it humid there still? When I was there in June it was crazy hot! I didn't bother with my hair at all!

  5. This is such a cute outfit, your hair does look a little different but I certainly didn't pick up on the subtle difference. :)

Re: wearing jackets in sub 70 temperature...I am exactly the opposite. I went to school in bloody cold New Hampshire and the kids at my college would literally put on shorts and short-sleeved t-shirts as soon as it goes above 40 and start playing frisbee in the snow. Good times.

  6. You hair looks cute!! When I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for 4 years I could not believe when people would bust out coats when it was in the 50's!!! Florida is so funny that way!

  7. You look great!!!
You are so funny, 70 degrees cold. That's a heat wave here. I actually grew up in the desert, so I was used to 115 in the summer and 30s in the winter. Now that I live in the Pac Northwest, it is basically 50 all the time and wet. I now wear shorts in 65 degree weather and feel sick if it's hotter than 70. I've lived here for almost a decade, so I guess I've acclimated :)

  8. That dress looks great with a belt, Melissa. Pretty color and contrast of black and greenish blue.

It is ridiculously hot where I live too. There is no sign of fall here, probably not until Dec or Jan!

  9. Yay, gorgeousness !! I haven't worked for weeks and weeks now! Soon enough, I won't be able to fit into my clothes!

I'm getting nervous.. Hopefully today and hopefully you've got a great postal system in Florida!

  10. I like the dress with a belt. It's funny how I used to be totally against belting things because I thought it was too "trendy", but now I belt practically everything!!!

  11. This dress looks absolutely fabulous on you! I especially love how you belted it, so figure flattering!

  12. I like the layering! This is great inspiration as we move into the colder weather. I don't want to ignore all my cute dresses :)

  13. OMG OMG OMG I pine for 70 degrees!!!! It's hot like fire here. But I'm in pants and a sweater, because, dangit, I'm going to imagine the Fall 'til it comes!

  14. How in the world is it 90 there but 95 here? It's miserably hot today. I have to agree once it hits 70s I'm cold.

That said, I ADORE that dress. The pattern is such a great *pop!*

  15. Pretty dress!

It's 90 in GA today, but I can't wait for super cold temperatures. My northern blood would love a northeastern autumn!

  16. Wasn't this {slightly} cooler FL weather such a nice reprieve today?! I ALMOST wore boots, but then I decided that was a little too optimistic :)

  17. Your hair looks great. Unfortunately I can't blow dry my hair (unless I plan on straightening it) otherwise it will look like I stuck my finger in a socket. I don't really mind most of the time, but it gets a bit cold in the winter.

I also love the dress on you! The belt pulls the whole outfit together and really accentuates your waist.

  18. Oh boy, I am crossing all my fingers and toes here!

  19. I love the colors and the print of the dress. The belt really pulled it all together.

  20. Great use of a belt -- I agree that it breaks up the pattern very, very nicely. And your hair looks spectacular -- so polished and pretty.

Every once in a while, I wake up with a few extra minutes to actually do my hair -- but on most days, I just wash and go (which I why I always crop my early mornings pix!)

  22. Love the layering! We're major wusses in California, too. I've been in pants and sweaters all week b/c it's been "only" 85 degrees this week. :)

  23. I feel you on the heat! I consider flat ironing my hair all the time. And consider is all I do. It's just now getting to where it's less than 80 at 7am and we’re all excited. Ah, the joy of living in the south. Loving that dress too. What a fun pattern!

  24. Thanks everyone! I really can't wait for some cooler weather, although I'm the one who whines and complains that I'm cold all the time. I just really want to pull out my boots and start wearing some tights to cover up my white legs! :)

  25. Haha. I wore gloves and earmuffs in Boston early October. And need a lot of those accessories maybe when it's like 65. Not quite 70, no. But I would wear a cardigan or something. Ahhh, I wish. It didn't get that cool in South FL.

I wanted warmer weather, never had that "used to it" thing up there. But it is too hot here for me, and I miss autumn, Boston food, my family, a more fashionable community, etc.

We're stuck down here for a while with my BF's work, but we think we want to move eventually. He just doesn't know where yet. It's up to us, but I have my vote.

    *shrug*

Also, I'm so glad to hear someone else doesn't blow dry. Usually "fashion people" look down on wet hair, but it dries so fast here, and blow-drying IS less healthy. I rarely use the dryer anymore. I need to throw my really long hair in a bun though, for a time, or else there will be a puddle on my shirt. That might be one reason I use the dryer.

  26. OH Ella, it gets cold enough for me down here! Cold enough that I HAVE to blow dry in the winter.
