Daily MelWear: Blazers Work Like Cardigans

Hi everyone!

I hope you all had a fantastic, safe, restful Labor Day weekend. For those of you who don't have Labor Day, I hope you had a great normal weekend! :)

Which reminds me, Jamie-Lee asked me about Labor Day and not wearing white (she lives in New Zealand).  In the US, Labor Day usually signifies the end of summer and beginning of fall. Years (and years and years and years) ago, apparently some person decided that white shoes weren't appropriate in the fall because they looked too summery. Ever since, etiquette has deemed white shoes unwearable after Labor Day. Following that was white skirts, pants, etc. Winter white is "okay" but I guess white needs to be on hold during the fall.  Or something.

I don't know who that person was, but they had some serious fashion power. I like to rebel, though. :)

At the last minute, my husband and I decided to go see his sister's band play at a martini bar tonight.  I figured even though I just posted this dress on Friday, we did mention that it could also be worn to work so I'm wearing it to work. A blazer can work like a cardigan; it makes almost anything work appropriate!

The dress is rather low-cut so I added a cami for work, which I'll take off before we head out tonight. I'm wearing my leopard flats to work but will probably change into my silver stilettos later.

Easy work-to-drinks outfit!

Hope you're all having a great morning so far!

Today's outfit:

Dress: Ross

Blazer: Goodwill Boutique

Black Cami: Target

Leopard Flats: Target

  4. Blazers have to be one of the best pieces of clothing ever, for this exact reason! What a fantastic outfit for work AND play!

I love the leopard flats but that probably goes without saying! I am so envious of your animal print collection!!

  6. OHsocute! The blazer and layered cami really bring the party dress to the office. My favorite part is that you kept the leopard shoe, but traded out for a flat.

  9. Love this outfit! Yay for wearing dresses to work, those leopard flats add awesome flavor to the outfit. :)

And booo to the person who compelled people to start chanting "no white after labor day"...I love white and I'll wear it in January if I want to. Melissa, you should do a fashion challenge in the middle of the winter and get a lot of fashion bloggers to protest this stupid outdated rule by wearing white.

  13. Oh my goodness. It's almost 1 a.m. and I'm JUST reading my blogs for today! Bummer, right? You look amazing. I love the flats with this dress. They add really fun, flirty spice, but are still professional. I also think putting the cami and blazer with your par-tay garb was FABULOUS. I need to start trying to see my fun dresses as work dresses, too. :) P.S.- you're kicking my patookus in Words with Friends!

  15. Thanks everyone! Blazers make me happy for just this reason.

For that matter, so do camis. :)

curls-and-pearls: cleavage at the office is not something that should happen. Ever. :)

Elle: that's a good idea! I have an idea brewing now, thanks to your suggestion...

Destined: YES! I've belted blazers before. In fact, I might try to do that for my next outfit...

Collette: DEAL - you do flats, I'll try knee-highs. On a weekend, of course. My boss probably wouldn't appreciate them at work. :)

Marilou: I can't wait! You are SO sweet!

Kimberly: Go to bed. You're a working mom, you shouldn't be reading blogs at 1AM. :)

    Thanks guys!

  16. I love outfits that double like that! You look great as always! And yeah, who was that person? White is definitely on hold until the fall is over when you see everyone wearing winter white again. I guess I should have worn my white pants when I had the chance :(

  18. Kristin, I'm rebelling...I'm totally going to wear white in the fall anyway. I just like it, why hide it because someone else dictates that it's not appropriate? :)

devilishlypleasurable - thanks! I really love that deep purple, it's such a great color!
