Daily MelWear: Zebra In Green

I wasn't so sure I'd like this outfit. I'm not positive that I really like this dress to begin with. The only other time I've worn it was here and while that outfit worked pretty well, I think the dress by itself stumps me a little. {I just noticed I'm wearing the same necklace, too. Wow, how's that for unimaginative?}

The shirt seems like it would be too long to work well, but I actually really like the length of it against the length of the dress. This may not be my most professional outfit, though nothing really stands out as inappropriate, but I think it's a bit more "different" than my boss would like (she tends to say that I dress "crazy"). The good news is that she didn't say anything about it, so I suppose it worked okay.

There have been a few times I've put on an outfit, felt okay about it, then by the time I got to work (or halfway through the day) I was uncomfortable because I decided it wasn't as appropriate or professional as I'd like to project.

So friends, tell me about a time you wore an outfit you initially liked, but then vowed never to wear again. I can't be the only one with these outfit mood swings, can I?

Okay and speaking of questions, does anyone use Formspring anymore? I don't really get questions on there and have considered deleting my account, because people can contact me via email (or Twitter, or Facebook) with questions. What are your thoughts?

Have a great Thursday, lovelies!

Today's outfit:
Dress: Ross
Green Shirt: Charlotte Russe
Black Belt: Macy's (came with a dress)

Shoes: Target
Necklace: Wal-Mart

  1. Lovely! I love the dress and how the pattern doesn't spread over the whole dress.

I never did join Formspring. I figure if someone wants to ask me a question they will just ask it! I'd say, delete it! It's one less thing to worry about. :)

  2. Such a cute and fun dress! I like how you paired it with the green shirt and belted it.

And yes, I have worn a navy shirt dress to work and felt uncomfortable all day in it. It looked cute when I originally put it on, but then as the day went on, I felt it was too casual for the office. You live and learn I guess :)

  3. I think that's a fabulous dress! I'd like to see it without a top layer!

A while back I wore some wide leg pants with a loose top and long cardi...made me look so stumpy, but I wouldn't have realized if I didn't take an outfit photo. That's the good thing about our blogs - if we make a fashion faux-pas we have documentation not to do it again ;)

  4. I love this outfit! The jewel toned shirt looks great on you.

I've definitely put on things I later regretted. I bought this houndstooth dress from Forever 21 and wore it to work, fortunately with tights, but I swear that thing shrunk during the day. I pulled it down all day long and felt so uncomfortable. I was terrified the principal would pick that day for my random observation. Also, a girl who I busted the previous day for a dress code violation told me she had the same dress . . . I haven't worn it since.

  5. Cute outfit. I do the opposite of you. I put the outfit on and i'm unsure of it go to work and everyone likes it.

  6. I can't believe your boss says that you dress 'crazy'. Although if it were me I would definitely take it as a compliment! I love the dress. I often go off my outfits half way through the day and start to feel uncomfortable in them, i think I just lose my confidence when I start to feel tired.

  7. Belted, the shirt acts as a cardigan and totally works! Zebra print is awesome...you totally took the classy animal print approach by just having splashes of it on your dress! (Not that I wouldn't wear a full animal dress print...totally would...just saying ;) )

  8. I love that dress! I like how it's patterned, but not overbearing. I must say I like it with the red top better though.

  9. I really like the length of the shirt with the dress! IT allows just enough zebra stripes to peek out. They're really cute together!

I once wore a dress that was my sister's to work. I kept thinking that it seemed a little short for work, but she's taller than me, so I figured if she could do it, then I could. Later, I found out that she always wore it as a tunic shirt with leggings. That was embarrassing! (To be fair, this was a few years ago, when I was at my hottest and could get away with showing off my legs . . . just not at work!)

  11. I like the zebra dress...it's really cute, the blouse is a fun accent! I haven't really had any instances recently where I put something on and the only to not love it.

  12. I like how the zebra pattern isn't too overwhelming and that beautiful pop of colour!

  13. Love how you styled that shirt as more of a blazer! That dress looks great on you!!

  14. I love that teal color, and the zebra dress is AWESOME. I may be partial because its my favorite animal print, but it does look great on you. I'd love to see it on its own too.

  15. I think the dress looks cute on you and looks beautiful with the color turquoise cardi. I TOTALLY get those outfit mood swings as well...sometimes by the time I get to work I start feeling like I was crazy while making this outfit... haha, it happens to everyone I guess.

Oh, and I have just started using Formspringme... I haven't received any questions on it either, so I dunno how good it is or not.

  16. I love the jewel tone of that shirt! Styling it over a dress was a great move to make use of these two great separates.

  17. I actually love the dress, but am not loving the teal with it. I'm not sure why. Maybe try a yellow or blue cardigan? I think the fullish skirt needs a slimmer topper. Maybe it's because the shirt says more casual. or needs to be paired with something more professional like you said. They're both great pieces though.

I stopped using formspring. It's easier just to ask questions via blog, email or twitter. I don't see the point in adding yet another site into the mix.

I do the create an outfit that I never want to wear again all the time. I have a number of outfits or pieces I wore once, loved it starting out but now cringe when I'm scrolling through old photos. I'm doing that less and less, trying to learn from my 'mistakes', but I feel like it's glaringly obvious to me that something is not working.

  18. I've said it before but I'll say it again- I love teal on you! I think you look great but I have those days where in theory the outfit is great and in practice it falls short (happens to the best of us!)

  19. I have outfit mood swings too, I think it's a female thing. They usually happen when we go out somewhere at night. I will like what I choose then we go out with friends and I might be more or less dressy then where we end up going and once I see myself in a mirror ask myself why I choose what I did. :)

  20. This is a nice color combination.
Yes, I have those outfit swings. Such as the F21 sweater leggings I purchased last season. They more look like socks and simply not good.
Yet, they are still in my closet I keep hoping to find another use for them.
