Daily MelWear: New Office, New Dress

And we can now officially say Happy Holidays! Yes, I know, people were saying it before but I feel like before Thanksgiving is WAY too early for that.

How was your Thanksgiving? I really do want to hear all about it, so tell me!

This week marks the real start of my new job, since I am no longer working for my old department and I'm here full time. Yay! I figured I'd start off with a new dress. This dress makes me happy. It's a warm material so it'll be great to layer once it gets cold but for today when the high will be 82 degrees, it works because it's sleeveless. WIN! I threw on a teal belt for some color, pearls for some added femininity and I'm good.

Now the only thing I'm worried about is the fact that the girls here have mentioned I might dress a little too "edgy" for my new boss, and she's also highly offended by cleavage...and even this dress might be too low-cut for her! That makes me nervous because this dress is one of the higher necks that I have. Eek! I hope I don't mess up too badly with attire here.  I do know that she doesn't care so much about skirt hemlines so that's not a concern. :)

Are you ready to be back at work  yet? I'm excited to start this job but the long weekend has me wishing I was back in my warm bed!

Today's outfit:
Dress: Ross
Teal Belt: Salvation Army
Black Heels: Target
Pearl Necklace: Ross
Pearl Bracelet: Gift from ML

What a cute pop of color in the belt....and the shoes are sweet and innocent (point that out if she complains about the neckline, lol)

  4. Great outfit choice for your first official day on the new job! I hate those first few days of a new job where you have to test the waters and see how everyone else dresses.

  8. You never so cleavage that I can see on your blog. So I think you are good there. Also super cute dress.

My Thanksgiving was great. I spent it in West Palm Beach with my Oma and Aunt and Uncle. Also my Hubby. We all had a good time catching up and sharing great food.

  9. Melissa, this dress is too cute! Also, I think I've said this before, but your workplace has CRAZY rules for dress! Sheesh!

  10. Gorgeous dress!! If worst comes to worse through a cami on underneath anything questionably low cut. Cleavage is easy to cover, a too-short hemline not as much.

Agreeing with others, your work has some insanely strange dress codes.

Hubs and I went to my mom's for Thanksgiving. We brought some of the food. After lunch, we went to see Harry Potter. Then chilled at her place for awhile and had coffee and cookies. Then we came home, and D worked all weekend. Mmm retail on Black Friday.

  12. I love your dress and it doen't look at all indecent. If it isn't too warm you could take a jacket and put it on if she is around, but I can't see how she would have a problem with your beaitiful dress.

  17. That dress is gorgeous!!

If it's too low, and I don't think it is, but if it is, you could put a little cami underneath.

Best of luck at the new job!!

  19. Where in the world do you work?!? There is nothing wrong with a this dress! You look great!! I guess if the dress does come into question it would look great with a white button up underneath! Have a great first (full) day!

  20. You look adorable! I had the pleasure of heading down to Florida to spend some time with my family. It was nice to enjoy the warm weather and relax. Unfortunately, I get home much less often than I would like. So, it's always welcome when the holidays roll around.

  22. Great dress to start the new job. The flower, the length, the pearls, everything works together.
Hopefully your new boss will focus on the great job you do instead of your outfits. I think you look professional and put together.
Good luck at the new job!

  24. Offended by cleavage? That might be one of the funniest things I have ever heard. I swear you work at a convent :)

  25. What IS your new boss a PILGRIM ? (no offense)
I think this dress is very pretty and there is NO extra skin showing anywhere !!
Now, if you must cover up, it would also look beautiful layered with a crisp white shirt.

  26. Oh you are oh so pearly pretty today! =)

One of my best friends told me yesterday that Im not making myself liked at work because of the way I dress! Im not saying shes wrong but I dont feel right dressing like a slob just to make people like me!

You look great in that dress so I hope it wont be an issue! Loving the accessories of course!

  27. That dress is beautiful! Your office (old and new) definitely have some strict dress codes. Maybe you should invest in a basic black blazer to leave at your office. Then no matter what the circumstance or the outfit, you can slip it on and ALWAYS be professional in an emergency (like the boss sends out an email about cleavage and you are looking down at yours...)

  28. Hi Melissa! I'm catching up on blogs, so I'm just reading this now. I think this dress is just darling. I don't think the neckline looks too low at all, and I love the capsleeves. They show just the right amount of arm! And oh, that flower. So, so cute! No chance it's detachable so you can use on on other outfits, eh?
