Daily MelWear: Same Thing Only Different

I've worn this dress before in a very similar way.  This time I decided to throw in a little more pattern with the cardigan.

I really love animal prints. A lot.

So the cardigan is different, the belt is different, the jewelry is different...but the dress with a belted layer on top and the shoes are the same. Is this different enough or a little too much of the same thing?

For some reason, my mind is completely blanking on different ways to style this dress for the office.  I'm sure there will be more options once fall and winter arrive.  I do have some casual ideas.

Once again, I'm behind in my blog reading so I may not get to comment as much as I usually do.  There are just so many awesome blogs out there that I think I subscribe to too many in my Reader, so I get behind if I don't check it every single hour of every single day! And I just don't have that time.  Today is going to be a busy day but I'll try to get on and read when I can.

How do you all narrow down your subscriptions?  How do you stay caught up on reading and commenting (or are you as behind as I am)?  What are your absolute favorite, must-read fashion blogs?

Today's outfit:

Purple/Gray/Black Dress: Plato's Closet

Gray Leopard Cardigan: Wal-Mart (clearance!)

Black Belt: Kohl's (came with a shirt)

Gray Pumps: Payless

Jewelry: Wal-Mart

  1. Me-ow, I like the cardi! I love animal prints too, but I never think I can carry it off, so I just have a few pairs of animal-y shoes.

I know what you mean about the blog reading! There are so many great blogs out there and new ones (like yours!) always pop up too. I do my blog reading in clumps, so I guess I am making virtual rounds - one bunch today, another bunch the next, etc. That way I won't get overwhelmed and still am able to stay in touch with everybody.

  2. I just found your blog, it is wonderful. You look too cute in this outfit! It is impossible for me to keep up sometimes, I need to clear out my list someday soon.
A few of my faves are Lulu Letty, Dirty Hair Halo, Oh gosh the list is too long!

  3. I love animal print too - and that cardigan looks amazing with the purple in the dress! Grey and purple go together so beautifully :)I'm so glad I found your blog, I love the way you put pieces together!

It can be so hard to keep up with all the blogs out there, especially if you're like me and add practically every single one you stumble upon! There's just so many fellow fashion lovers out there and I love to see everyone's different styles! I have a handful of blogs I try to comment on regularly, and the rest I tend to admire from afar.

  5. I'm eyeing a cardi almost just like that at Target right now.

I think fashion blogging makes us think it's not normal to wear the same thing the same way, but real people do it ALL the time!~ Looking gorgeous!

  6. Love that cardi! I'm also a sucker for animal prints; my obsession with leopard is just ridiculous.

I totally know what you mean about keeping up with the blogs. I find myself also "making the rounds" (as a previous commenter said). There are a few I visit daily, but for the most part, I have to break it down so I don't get too overwhelmed.

  8. Leopard print and deep purple is a genius combination. This is such a cute way to wear animal print without it becoming overwhelming. Great look!

And I completely understand about feeling like there's just so much to read out there. There are so many wonderful blogs, and I want to comment on all of them. And I can't even imagine how many other wonderful blogs there are that I haven't heard about yet!

  9. Don't make reading and commenting like a second job. You will naturally gravitate to blogs and people that you really enjoy and narrow your view gradually based on your values. It really is impossible to keep up with everyone we admire. And we continue to meet new people everyday. if you try too hard to get around to your staples and continue to add more, you will only suffer burn out and end up shutting everyone out due to over stimulation. It may eat at you since you may be unable to meet people or reply to someone that you know is interesting and cool, but eventually you may have to let go of that too. The truth is, you can only really enjoy what your heart is capable of enjoying. Put too much pressure on it and it will close up. I have learned this the hard way. Only now is it allowing me to slowly open again. There are so many interesting and wonderful people to enjoy and converse with here. The trick is to listen to yourself and not judge when your path leads you in new directions. Your post was very poignant for me today. I may not have read it if I stuck to my self imposed internet obligations. Thank you for teaching me a lesson.

  10. Hey lady! I'm behind, too. I need to narrow my reading list down, but I get so many great ideas from so many people that I can't imagine letting anyone go! My must reads include Love Maegan and Chic Steals! I can't live without them. :)

  11. Cute cardi! Can you believe I own 0 animal print???? Craziness.
I'm basically addicted to my reader I just scroll through it and skim most posts, but if someone commented my blog or a I really love their post I'll head over. Every once in a while I just comment every post in my reader just so people know I'm out there and I care! It's a lot of work, but so worth it!

  12. I totally think it looks different enough! I love the animal print cardigan, as I am obsessed with animal print now too! And yes, I am soooo behind on reading blogs and commenting - but I think I have a pretty cute excuse named Violet :) Still, I'm anxious to get back on a schedule of commenting/writing/reading... You look great!!

  13. Lisa: Try some animal prints! Get a belt or a shirt that you can throw a cardi over so it's just a little at a time. I'm sure you can carry it off! What a great idea to read blogs in bunches, I may have to try that!

Jolie: Thanks! It really is hard to pick just a few good blogs, isn't it?

ShyGirl: Thank you! I do love purple and gray. It's just a very classic look, in my opinion. I am very much like you in that I tend to add every single blog I stumble upon! It's so hard not to because they're diverse and so inspiring. It's like an addiction!

Bridget: Plato's Closet is going to be the death of me! Every time I go in there, I usually spend several HOURS and have about 10 bunches of clothes to bring in the dressing room (since there's a limit).

Erin: Get the cardi at Target! Don't wait! :) I agree, there are a lot of blogs that I adore but they seem to buy lots of new things or have a much higher monthly shopping budget (compared to my current $0). I really like seeing remixes or when bloggers just flat out write that they wore the same outfit a few weeks ago. Don't we all?

Tricia: It was a stroke of luck! I had some birthday money, planned to shop at Target and Plato's Closet, was in Wal-Mart to get some other things and happened to browse through clearance...BAM! I ended up spending ALL of my birthday money in that one trip to Wal-Mart, all on clearance items. Amazing!

Jamie: Oh, let's not get started on how many other blogs are out there. Or the ones that will be started in the future. I can't handle it! :)

Christina: Thank you. So much. I feel like it HAS become almost a second job, but I'm the only one doing that to myself. Your comment really gave me a sense of relief.

Kimberly: I'm glad to know I'm not alone! I really think I need to work on commenting less. I try to leave comments because I know people love to get them, but I only leave them when I have something real to say. I never make things up. Maybe I should just talk less! :)

rlutz: Thank you! Me too! :)

Liz: Really? NO animal prints at all? Go get some! They're fabulous!

Kristin: Thanks! I'm glad I made it different enough. I have a cute excuse for being behind too usually, although my excuse this week isn't as cute (just work!).
