Originally my plan was to wear a new red and brown floral dress with red strappy heels...but we still have guests in our office this week (I'm pretty sure you don't want to hear the reason why; suffice it to say that we have two extra women working in our office for an undetermined amount of time.) so instead of going with our "revised" dress code, I'm trying to comply with the corporate dress code with the lack of patterns and addition of closed-toe shoes. Yeah, there's jewelry here but I've worn this necklace before and my boss was okay with it because it's simpler and it's black.
The dress I was going to wear comes with a red bolero that I'd planned to wear with this skirt and tank, but when I put it on it just didn't look right. I remembered this blazer, figured it would be perfect with a yellow belt and voila! I look accidentally professional today.
Since the Proper Professional post went up yesterday, I didn't get a chance to ask about everyone's Mother's Day on Sunday. My daughter was super extra sweet all day long and we had a wonderful day! How was yours?
Today's outfit:
Black Skirt: GAP
Turquoise Tank: Charlotte RusseBlazer: Kohl's
Yellow Belt: Target
Black Slingbacks: Target
Necklace: Wal-Mart
Cute outfit...love the pop of blue and the slingbacks! You have really nailed down the term "professional dress!!"
ReplyDeleteI like how you added the blue and the yellow to brighten up the outfit :)
ReplyDeleteLove that little yellow accent belt!
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow and turquoise! I'm going to have to search your blog and see if I can find what your office dress code is all about! They don't let you wear patterns?? And they don't like much jewelry? It sounds almost as strict at the small Christian college I went to!
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow and blue accents (can you call an entire shirt an accent? I totally think you can!). And I'm so glad you had a lovely Mother's Day, and that your daughter played along with the holiday. Miss refused-to-take-a-nap because she fell asleep in the car for twenty minutes was not so obliging :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's anything wrong at all with your professional outfit -- it still looks really you in the fact that the jacket has some fun details, like the puff sleeves and the large buttons. You totally know how to dress corporate and still not lose yourself!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a wonderful Mother's Day you totally deserve it!!! I think you look stunning today!
ReplyDeleteLove the yellow belt, an added bit of colour but in a professional way. Glad you had a good Mothers Day, ours was back in March in the UK.
ReplyDeleteI think you do a great job with fabric texture and use of color! Even when you are having to scale back for work. Hope things are going alright.
ReplyDeleteIt's the little things... I love how that bright tank and the yellow belt play against your professional neutrals. Just the right pop of personality.
ReplyDeleteI love that belt!! It adds a great touch to the outfit :)
ReplyDeleteVery cute, and the yellow belt is the perfect addition :)
ReplyDeleteI really like these short-sleeved blazers. I wish there were more of them around. :) Love that subtle colors that you added... hope they were subtle enough to adhere to the dress code.
ReplyDeleteI like the yellow belt! It adds the perfect touch to your outfit!!!
ReplyDeleteI seriously need a yellow belt!
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday!!
love that splash of yellow!

I think it's great how even with a strict dress code, you still manage to think outside the box and put together a creative outfit. I especially love the yellow and blue combination.
ReplyDeleteYour yellow belts always make your outfits look extra fun and perfect for spring.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great professional look. I love the bright pops of color in your shirt and belt!
ReplyDeleteEven though you mentioned your day ended not-so-wonderfully, you definitely started out looking wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute. Love that mustard belt and blue combo under the greys and black.
ReplyDeleteOh, on the 'sea world' comment. Yeah, it takes getting used to handling the kids by yourself but practice makes perfect. You will also be amazed at how helpful other starnger mommies are to other mommies on their own. It is a huge support system which I am sure you noticed.
Daphne.

Love the cerulean blue and bright yellow. I think you did a great job of adhering to the dress code while also using some really fun colors. I'm looking forward to seeing your red dress when you're able to wear it. Doesn't it kill you when you have new clothes hanging in your closet, but don't have a chance to wear them???
ReplyDeleteAnd btw, I love your short sleeved blazer. That is definitely something i could use in my wardrobe!
This looks great. Your accidentally professional look works very well!!! And of, course, I love the yellow. I am super proud of you for trying to adhere to the corporate dress code and all!!!
ReplyDeleteMother's Day was pretty awesome up here. We had a nice sunny day where we gardened and had amazing family quality time.
