So today is Polka Dot Day over at Everybody, Everywear! I don't have a lot of pieces with polka dots but I found this dress in the clearance rack at Target over the weekend, so I snagged it real quick. I have lots of different styling ideas for it!
We have our bi-monthly board meeting tonight which means I needed to dress as close to "in code" as possible. Technically the polka dots are out of code because patterns are supposed to be small enough to appear solid from a distance. I think that's my only violation today though! Yay for me!
I know all of you are just dying to know if I got away with my shoes and short (in my opinion) skirt from yesterday's outfit (because I'm just so fascinating that it's all you can think about, right? Right? Anyone?). The answer would be yep! I don't think my boss even looked at my shoes all day to notice the peep toes and I pulled my skirt down often enough so she didn't notice that either.
Today will probably be another really busy day at work so once again, I'm not sure I'll get around to visiting blogs much. I miss you guys!
Hope you're all having a great week so far!
Today's outfit:
Polka Dot Dress: Target
Cranberry Blouse: From my aunt
Striped Tights: Wal-Mart
Black Belt: Can't remember, think it came with a dress
Black Pumps: Target
The dress is so cute - I have not gotten around to wearing a shirt over a dress yet. I am making my way that way. :) I am just learning to master the belted cardigan. :)
ReplyDeleteI love polkadots!
ReplyDeleteVery Cute! Reminds me of the movie "Because I said so" :)
ReplyDeletei need to get myself to target's clearance racks!! love the dress! and can i just say, your job has some pretty quirky dress code rules? just sayin' ...

That dress is really cute. I always love dots!
ReplyDeleteLove the polka-dots! So cute.
ReplyDeleteLove the way you layering. Very creative.
ReplyDeleteI love the dots. I wanted to play too but I forgot to fix the only polka-dot thing I own this weekend. :(
ReplyDeleteNo More Sweatpants
How do you keep to that dress code!?! Prints have to look solid from far away, I've never even heard of such a thing! But oh my goodness, I LOVE this dress! I have such a thing for polka dots and you are definitely looking fabulous in this dress :) And that blouse is such a rich color, love it on you!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! Love the polka dots on the dress, and it looks really cute under the blouse like that :)
ReplyDeleteI finally got to play along today! I swear, it only takes me 2 or 3 times before I finally catch on...
I don't know why I'm so fascinated with your work dress code but I completely am. What's the maximum distance you are allowed to see the pattern? 10 paces? :)
ReplyDeleteJenn
Wow that's the first I've heard about specifying patterns in a dress code! Melissa you rebel you! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love this layered look - so fun, but still very work appropriate (or for your sake, I hope :) )
ReplyDeleteLove the new blog look!!.
ReplyDeleteGreat styling of the polkadots...love how you wore the shirt over the dress...you look amazing!
I like this outfit so much!
ReplyDeleteI am adoring those stripes! Love the details of your chic outfit
ReplyDelete"patterns are supposed to be small enough to appear solid from a distance" boy do I see a loophole there! Distance is not specified and I'm willing to bet that from most passing planes that would appear solid. Case of the cute outfit closed.
ReplyDeleteI so interested in this dress code, too. It has to look solid from a distance? That's the funniest rule I've heard!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you rebelled...the dress it super cute!
Thanks for joining us at EBEW today!
The Auspicious Life
I too saw a dress on a clearance rack that was polka dotted - but I used a touch of self-restraint, knowing it'd be too cold today for a dress! Now I'm kind of wishing that dress and clearance rack wasn't 700 km away!
ReplyDeleteNice work with the polka dot dress--you really will be able to wear that for years to come!

Adorable...I love your layering in that second picture!
ReplyDelete*Almost* bought that dress the weekend before last! My coworker has the skirt. Lovin' it, as usual.
ReplyDeleteLove the layers you always pull off so very well! Adorable dress! Seriously that is a work dress code about prints? YIKES! And I thought ours was kinda 'stiff' but no where near picking out the prints for me! LOL If they get that picky I think I would have to tell my boss I'd need a wardrobe allowance. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat dress is adorable! I love polka dots too, but I don't really own many items with the pattern. I'm glad you didn't get in trouble for your outfit yesterday. You looked adorable and totally fine for work any environment that doesn't have an insane dress code.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is fabulous! What a creative way to layer :) You have fantastic style, and I really want that polka dot dress now - if only we had a target in Canada, booo :( Really cute blog, found you via EBEW :D

ReplyDeleteI have a really similar polka dot dress and wear it loads. It goes with so many different brightly coloured pieces and accessories. I love your outfit with the Cranberry blouse.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute dress!! What an amazing find! I have such a hard time at Target, I'm just not shaped the right way I guess.
ReplyDeleteI love that dress, even more so with the layered blouse and blazer. That cranberry plays off the graphic black and white so well (and you look gorgeous in jewel tones).
ReplyDeleteI love this dress. I have come back to look at it a few times now.
ReplyDeleteI love this layered look, I haven't done the skirt over the dress yet but, it's a nice way to keep up the modesty!
