Daily MelWear: Let's Polka!

So today is Polka Dot Day over at Everybody, Everywear! I don't have a lot of pieces with polka dots but I found this dress in the clearance rack at Target over the weekend, so I snagged it real quick. I have lots of different styling ideas for it!

We have our bi-monthly board meeting tonight which means I needed to dress as close to "in code" as possible. Technically the polka dots are out of code because patterns are supposed to be small enough to appear solid from a distance. I think that's my only violation today though! Yay for me!

I know all of you are just dying to know if I got away with my shoes and short (in my opinion) skirt from yesterday's outfit (because I'm just so fascinating that it's all you can think about, right? Right? Anyone?). The answer would be yep! I don't think my boss even looked at my shoes all day to notice the peep toes and I pulled my skirt down often enough so she didn't notice that either.

By the way, did you see that a winner was picked for the Shopbop Giveaway?

Today will probably be another really busy day at work so once again, I'm not sure I'll get around to visiting blogs much. I miss you guys!

Hope you're all having a great week so far!

  1. The dress is so cute - I have not gotten around to wearing a shirt over a dress yet. I am making my way that way. :) I am just learning to master the belted cardigan. :)

  8. How do you keep to that dress code!?! Prints have to look solid from far away, I've never even heard of such a thing! But oh my goodness, I LOVE this dress! I have such a thing for polka dots and you are definitely looking fabulous in this dress :) And that blouse is such a rich color, love it on you!

  9. Too cute! Love the polka dots on the dress, and it looks really cute under the blouse like that :)

I finally got to play along today! I swear, it only takes me 2 or 3 times before I finally catch on...

  10. I don't know why I'm so fascinated with your work dress code but I completely am. What's the maximum distance you are allowed to see the pattern? 10 paces? :)

  11. Wow that's the first I've heard about specifying patterns in a dress code! Melissa you rebel you! ;)

  15. "patterns are supposed to be small enough to appear solid from a distance" boy do I see a loophole there! Distance is not specified and I'm willing to bet that from most passing planes that would appear solid. Case of the cute outfit closed.

  16. I so interested in this dress code, too. It has to look solid from a distance? That's the funniest rule I've heard!
I'm glad you rebelled...the dress it super cute!

  17. I too saw a dress on a clearance rack that was polka dotted - but I used a touch of self-restraint, knowing it'd be too cold today for a dress! Now I'm kind of wishing that dress and clearance rack wasn't 700 km away!

  21. Love the layers you always pull off so very well! Adorable dress! Seriously that is a work dress code about prints? YIKES! And I thought ours was kinda 'stiff' but no where near picking out the prints for me! LOL If they get that picky I think I would have to tell my boss I'd need a wardrobe allowance. ;-)

  22. That dress is adorable! I love polka dots too, but I don't really own many items with the pattern. I'm glad you didn't get in trouble for your outfit yesterday. You looked adorable and totally fine for work any environment that doesn't have an insane dress code.
