You guys are awesome, have I mentioned that lately? Thank you for the sweet comments about the pants in yesterday's post.
I am going to make it my mission now to find some perfectly fitting pants and jeans. All while looking for a new bathing suit, too. Sounds fun, right? Who wants to come with me? I promise I won't get too irritable. Okay I at least won't get violent. This time.
I almost didn't even take pictures of this outfit, and then I almost didn't post them. But I figured I might as well just be real and show you the outfits I'm not a big fan of and not just the ones I like.
Those of you that wear jeans so often, how on earth do you do it? I need some tips and pointers. Or maybe some better shirts to go with them.
Since it's jeans day at work, I decided to wear jeans. Originally I had on a different top, but it was too long to wear with jeans. So then I changed into this blueish grayish blouse. It's fairly shapeless but the material and color are pretty. The shapelessness is what got me though, and I started getting all sorts of frustrated trying to make it work for me. Finally I settled on the black cardigan with the gold belt. Added the leopard booties and pearl necklace just for kicks.
I'm still not quite happy with it; I'd be much more comfortable in a dress or skirt. But I really need to learn how to wear pants and jeans so I'm trying, and that's what's important, right? Yes.
If at first you don't succeed...go shopping? Or something.
Hope you have a great day! Tomorrow is Friday so that makes it a little better, right?

first of all, I think you look great in pants and I think the type of shirt/sweater/belt is great with these jeans. (and leopard + pearls? yes!)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a pants person. I think it's important to find a style that works for you - wide leg, trouser, straight leg, boot cut, etc. There are so many different shades of denim too. Different brands also fit SO differently. Most importantly, it should be something you feel fabulous in.
Finally, you want to feel comfortable with what you're wearing!
I think you look great. I wear pants a lot and agree with Julia. You have to shop and find the fit for you. New York & Company has great jeans and I found some of my favorite black jeans at Target recently.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the mix of jeans, leopard and pearls. HALLELUJAH girl! Most people are not brave enough to do that but you did and it paid of. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
I recommend checking out Ann Taylor Loft/Gap/Old Navy for jean options - they all offer a ton of different fits and styles and come in a wide range of sizes and inseams (and are all reasonably priced). I used to never think about it with denim, but there really is a perfect fit for every body type - and I appreciate that retailers are recognizing that.
ReplyDeleteI love those booties on you, Melissa. They look fantastic on you!
you look great. I wear t-shirt with jeans. Also cover ups and dress them up. All depends on where I'm going.
ReplyDeleteNew York and Company has get pants. I love there wide leg dress pants. They should get having the whole store 50% off here soon.

For 1, you always look cute, and for 2, I loooove those shoes!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever read this blog?

On the right side bar she has links to posts called "Body Shape Explained", and they are so helpful in figuring out what styles and cuts are most flattering for different body types. And shoe doesn't just list the body types we see in all the magazines like pear, apple, athletic, etc. She lists 7 different shapes and describes them, shows examples of real women, and gives loads of styling tips. Check it out! When I read it I found out I was and X body shape! Who knew?!
This is the first time in almost five years that I am going to buy a bathing suit and I am so not looking forward to it. If only we lived closer to one another, we could get some margaritas and tackle that fun task together.
ReplyDeleteNo More Sweatpants
Gasp those booties- how I love Charlotte Russe! I'm with you- I rarely wear jeans and when I do I don't feel like myself. I really like the flare on your jeans- much better than the skin tight pairs (which I must admit are the majority of mine) Good luck on bathing suit shopping- this summer I am looking for a one piece with sexy cutouts!
ReplyDeleteThose shoes are fantastic! And I really, really love them with the jeans. I love my jeans, but I'm a fan of dressing them up with fun accessories when I wear them. So, well done, in my opinion :)
ReplyDeleteThose booties are killer!!
ReplyDeleteBeing a skirts and dresses kind of girl myself, I understand not feeling comfortable in jeans and pants...but I think you look fab in those jeans!!!
I hate shopping for pants, too! I never can find a great pair that is a decent price without looking forever. I have wanted a pair of slim fit black pants for almost 6 months and no luck. At least your leopard shoes make up for pants frustration! Shoes are fabulous because they fit no matter how much weight we gain or lose and always look great even when they are not on and killing our feet.
ReplyDeleteThe booties make this whole outfit! They are amazing. I love jeans with a T shirt and blazer. I think everyone should have a pair of great fitting dark denim, trouser jeans to wear to nicer occasionals. Once I wore them to a football game and was asked why I dressed up!! They are great for many different occasions. I just bought a pair of jeggings! I am excited to wear them.

I want to go shopping with you!!! I LOVE those shoes they are beautiful!! I think you look darling in jeans!
ReplyDeleteYou look great in pants, and I am super happy that they are selling more wide legged styles this spring.
ReplyDeleteWho cares what the rest of the outfit looks like when you have amazing shoes like that!!!
ReplyDeleteI really love Gap jeans...and they have so many different kinds, you should check them out! And I think you look fabulous by the way :)
ReplyDeleteI think it looks really cute! Those are great jeans. When I wear them, I try to make sure the denim compliments whatever I'm wearing with. See with the leopard and jeans - I could easily see a red top being a better top. For that mint/aqua color, I'd probably go with a dark grey, indigo or black wash jean. Basically hold your jeans up against your tops and see how the color and tone 'go'.
ReplyDeleteIf you feel like your body needs more 'structure' - wear a jacket or a top with better seaming. Loose tops can easily be tucked in to skirts and given shape - but that's not always a solution with jeans. So look to keep a defined waist, even without a belt.
I love this outfit! I'm happy you decided to post it.
ReplyDeleteHello...really enjoy your blog...have become fascinated with OOTD blogs! I have problems with wearing pants, but have finally found several great pants that work well for my pear shaped figure. I also have a big back side so it has been very hard to find good looking pants. I find jeans uncomfortable also and just don't like the look (on me) or the feel.
ReplyDeleteGAP has the best ever curvy trousers. The wash well, hold their shape and color and have a perfect cut. They are kind of pricey but very worth it. New York and company has really nice flare and boot cut pants in their 5th avenue pant. The Limited "Cassidy" pants are also a nice cut and I finally feel that I have found some pants that really work for me. Good luck and enjoy shopping!
Jean shopping is no fun I know. I always love finding jeans when I am not shopping for them. Much more fun that way. Same goes with swimsuit shopping. I love the animal print booties and that aqua green silk blouse is so pretty.
ReplyDeletegreat look, especially with the belt!

I'm following you, I hope you'll do the same. Thanks so much.

I think you look fabulous in these jeans, but I hear ya, I have a harder time styling them b/c I'm so used to dress clothes.
ReplyDeleteI haven't owned a bathing suit in 8 years, so I don't think I'd be much help. Though I would be great moral support! haha :)
Jeans are def a challenging thing to shop for. I am a huge fan of Gap jeans, I find them comfortable and really well-priced. But bathing suit shopping and jean shopping in the same day sounds pretty intense...you might need to schedule a cocktail break in there!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck!
xo, Ashley
You look great Melissa! I agree with Lisa above - well I can't speak for LOFT no LOFT in Canada but Gap and Old Navy are pretty reasonable and have jeans in many different cuts and styles.
ReplyDeleteThose leopard shoes are pretty fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLove the booties! I have a great giveaway going on! 2necklaces and a foulard! Please, come follow me... http://desperate4fashion.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteXOXO
You look fine in them. I don't like to wear them very often, but I wear them sometimes. I wear a lot of longer tanks layered under shorter shirts. And I like cute little 3/4 sleeve button ups with wide belts.
ReplyDeleteThose booties are PERFECT with those jeans! Super cute outfit!! Haha, and I think going shopping with you would be a lot of fun!! (Especially shoe shopping!) Seriously, great outfit! :)
