Daily MelWear: Spur of the Moment

I have no idea why I'm wearing this today. Seriously, no idea. When I went to sleep last night, I thought of several pieces that I've bought recently and haven't worn yet and I thought of how I could style them today. Then, I woke up, saw this skirt and threw this outfit on. It doesn't make me particularly happy, but it's not bad either.

I really don't know why I didn't wear the new stuff. Sometimes I'm not sure how my own mind works.

And with the 30x30 coming up soon, I'm not sure when I'll get to wear those new pieces! I don't know that I'm brave enough to include new items in my 30.

I have a few things to tell you about!

First, my super special friend Kimberly has opened her own etsy shop selling the MOST adorable skirts! She can make them sized for toddlers and girls or for YOU! Please go visit her blog post about it and let her know if you'd be interested in purchasing a skirt. They're really quite fabulous!

Second, I don't think I've mentioned this yet but please remember to vote for Collette in the E.L.F. Beauty at All Ages Model Contest! She is the total package of brains and beauty both inside and out and deserves to win this more than anyone I know.

Third, I've been having so much fun lately getting to know some of you better through emails and Facebook and Formspring. I'd love to chat with even more of you so please get in touch with me! My email is {aworkingmomscloset at gmail dot com}, click here to find me on Facebook, here for Twitter and here to ask me anything you want on Formspring. I love the community and relationships created through blogging!

That's it for me, hope you all have a great day and I hope to hear from you!

Today's outfit:
Skirt: Target
Pink Tee: Kohl's
Brown Sweater: Plato's Closet
Pink Belt: Salvation Army
Brown Boots: Can't remember, some outlet mall same as my black boots
Necklace: Gift from ML (she needs some love and encouragement guys, go give her some love!)
Ring: Forever 21
EarringsGift from my mother-in-law

  1. You may not have planned it but it totally worked out. I love the cut of the cardigan and the shirt sleeves popping out from the shorter sweater sleeves. I've been seeing this recently and I need to try it.

  2. I like the unexpected pop of blue as I scrolled through! I've been looking at a couple skirts in that style, but honestly, I've been a little afraid that they will shift around and be a little too exposing! Am I just too paranoid?

I do enjoy days when I put on an outfit that maybe doesn't quite hit my happy scale, but at least I didn't take HOURS pondering over it! Today will probably be one of those days here, and I'll probably not look as pulled together as you!

  3. I think this outfit works really well. I can't wait to see what you pick out for the 30x30!

  4. I think you should add one new item to 30 for 30. To make it fun. My new jean skirt is going in my 30 for 30. I also plan on wearing it to work Friday. Don't you just love when I outfit goes together.

I saw the cute skirt on Kim blog this morning. Super Cute.

I also been voting everyday for Collette.

  5. It looks great for a totally unplanned outfit!!

    and your belt.

Some of my best outfits come from unplanned spurs of the moment. :) You look awesome!

THANK YOU for mentioning the skirts!!!!

  7. Melissa, I love the colour mixing in this outfit. And I'm SUCH a sweater girl, I want yours...NOW!

Beautiful jewellery, especially the ring :)

  8. I was in the same boat as you this morning. All thought of what I was going to wear went out the window when I woke up late and then realized I needed to stop for gas and would have to park far away from my office. I think I did okay. I hope you have fun doing the 30 for 30. I am still too scared to try it out because I am afriad I will lose weight and need to buy something to replace something that gets big. 30 outfits is a long time for me. Good luck!

  9. What an unusual shape for a skirt - I haven't seen it at Target but I'm going to keep my eyes open for it! So pretty.

And you look adorable when you belt stuff because you have a cute, tiny waist. I look like Spongebob. : )

  10. You look great today! Love that hot pink on you, and it really looks good with the contrasting skirt!

  11. I think it looks fabulous! Bringing some summer fun into this dreary winter. I think it's very unique and inspiring to see the darker colors of a bright print brought out.

Why not throw in a new item for the 30x30? It'll give you opportunity to really think it over. Try it on with some of your "not-new" pieces and get a feel for how it fits.

  12. I love this skirt. I think you bright and cheery :)
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. I'm really nervous but it's something that must be done.

  13. Super cute!! I love the colors! And the skirt is fantastic! And those boots just look perfect on you! And thanks for sharing about Collete and Kimberly! And really, your outfit totally works!! :)

  14. Oooh, so you will being 30 for 30, too? I actually love adding new pieces to my 30 mix. It's a good excercise to figure out how to incorporate an article of clothing into your wardrobe.

Cute colors in totday's post. Love it!

  15. I like the skirt! It's cool. Like the bottom part of you is going on holiday and the top half still knows how to be cool at work!

  16. I love all your accessories...great skirt...
I made the mistake of putting a few new pieces into my 30 last time...since I was not familiar with them, I had trouble remixing them

  17. Your outfit looks great for being thrown together at the last minute! I always like when an outfit comes together like that!!

  18. Melissa...first things first...cute outfit and I love those earrings!! Second, I teach public speaking in the summers. If you really want some pointers or to talk about it (I could recommend some reading as well)...then please email me can do it and with that could capture any audience!

  19. I do that all of the time. I will be leaning one way on an outfit, then completely fall off in the other direction at the last minute. That's why I'm such a serial over-packer...I need to make sure I have options :)

Planned or not, the outfit is a great one...I love pink and brown together!

  20. Seriously...loving the outfits you are posting this week...I always love what you wear...but these past few have been "funkified"...LOVE the sassy boots....the are rocking hunnie...there is a follower of mine who wears some really gorgeous outfits from LOFT..they are gorgeous and business chic...I thought of you and I, lol...:)
Thanks for the shout out hunnie...I really really appreciate it:)

  21. You look wonderfully cheerful and tropical. That's a pretty awesome combination ...

    Call Me Ishmael

  22. That's spur of the moment? So cute! I love how bright and pretty your skirt is.

  23. This is one of my favorite outfits of your ever! I love the layering, the use of color, and that skirt is so fabulous! The accessories add the perfect finish touch! Just a perfect outfit in my book :)

  24. This is a winning combo I think. Looks great. But, I do know how somedays you put things on and you are not crazy about it but don't hate it either. I have been having those kind of days for a few days now.
