Daily MelWear: The Bad With the Good

You know how sometimes it gets frustrating to read a blog where the writer always, always looks picture perfect, has fabulous photos and never any bad ones?

This is not that blog.

I'm not sure if it's the angle of the shot or if it's the blousy-ness of the shirt (which, by the way, is in fact a deep purple and not at all blue like it appears on my screen) or if it's the fact that this skirt is just a little too big...but either way, not my favorite.

I wonder if it would've looked better with the blouse untucked and belted. May need to try that next time. I have a few other remix ideas for this blouse. I absolutely love the color and the high neck. It's a blank canvas that would look fantastic with some layered necklaces, but tonight is a board meeting night and "bling" is not allowed per the corporate dress code.

I added touches of my style through the patterned tights and the ruffled blazer. Otherwise, it's kind of boring but apparently that's how they like it here. And since I like it here and would like to stay here, I'm going to comply.

Thank you for all of your get well wishes yesterday! I took some Nyquil again last night and slept all through the night, thankfully. I felt a little better when I woke up this morning so hopefully this ick-ness is on its way out.

And HEY! Do you all read Collette's blog, or Kimberly's blog? Well you SHOULD. Collette has a fabulous weekly feature called Twitter Tuesdays where she highlights one of her Twitter friends and this week she's highlighting Kimberly! Two of my favorite bloggers (and favorite people, really!) combined in one blog post! It doesn't get much better than that. Go check it out!

Today's outfit:

  2. I think you look beautiful here. We are our own worst critics!

I am envious of some bloggers who have perfect photos, but not all of us have the time or energy to devote to our little blogs. That's why I read yours - it's real!

  3. I love this skirt so much, and the shirt is pretty fabulous too. I agree, it IS begging for some drapey necklaces, but I understand the problem. However, I think once you added your ruffled jacket, it took care of that issue and polished you right up on top of it all. You look fab!

  4. You look great. I know if the clothes don't feel right (size wise) they won't feel great, but you look really nice and board-meeting appropriate.

  5. Not boring at all! The vibrant color plus the cool ruffled blazer makes it all you. And with the ruffles you don't need any necklaces.
I hate when skirts that need to fit perfectly don't (though being too big is better than being too small). I always think they will magically stay where I want them but end up tugging and pulling on them all day.

  7. If it didn't feel good it didn't feel good, but I think it looks really nice and nips in nicely at your waist!

  8. This is not at all boring - It's one of my favs on you! That color and paired with the classic pencil skirt- love! That ruffled jacket is too cute also.

  10. Thank you!!! I love you so much. :) And I'm never going to have perfect photos. I have a cheap camera and whatever surface I can find at the time. I can see the purple in your shirt with the ruffle close-up. My clothes show up all different colors all the time. I think the blousiness of the top is actually really flattering, because that pencil skirt shows of your iiiiiitttty bitty waist! And I need ruffles on my blazer.

  12. Fun! I love that color, and I know very few people who can pull off such a dramatic blouse, but you look absolutely cute as a button. Your amazing smile doesn't hurt, either! ^^

  13. I think the top doesn't define your waist as well as other tops, but with the blazer over it it's gorgeous! It could also be one of those pieces that doesn't photograph as it looks in real life (especially since you mentioned it's blue?)

I think you always look gorgeous and so happy! Even going through everything you've been through you're always smiling. Poo on perfection. I'd rather see someone who's comfortable with themselves, willing to experiment even if it does go bust. That's reality, darlin'.

  14. Yeah, my purple comes through as blue, all of the time! In fact, most of my colors tend to come through a little 'off'. I think it's because I'm taking pictures of myself, in a mirror, in my closet, under weird lighting, with an iPhone...

If that's not the recipe for a perfect picture, I don't know what is :)

I love this outfit on you today. I absolutely agree that the ruffled jacket was a fantastic substitute for jewelry you couldn't wear.

  16. I think that belting could work, because I love the shirt with the jacket over top! All put together, this is a great outfit! And who knows how great it actually probably looks in real life - I always find motion helps outfits, especialyl when they have a sheen to them!

  17. Funny enough, my first thought when I saw your post today was "wow, that looks great!!!" It is so funny what we think looks great on us compared to what others think. Maybe it has something to do with how we FEEL in it, I'm sure that effects our own opinion. :)

  18. I love this outfit! The blouse brightens it up so much! I was just thinking this would be an amazing outfit to wear on an interview. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better!

  21. It looks great. I totally know what you mean. I rarely get good photos. Either the pose is weird or the lighting is off. It is frustrating. Love your ruffled blazer over the outfit. I am so behind in blog reading. I follow them both so will check it out.

  22. I love the way you manage to inject so much of your personality into your outfits even when you're working under such a strict dress code. Well done! Loving those ruffles.

  24. Two fabulous bloggers! Honestly, I always look at other bloggers' blogs and think mine should be like that, but at the end I'm always glad that mine is unique to me. I love this outfit and think it all goes together well.

  25. I really like this outfit!! Its very cute!! I think purple is just one of those colors... sometimes my purple's come out blue in pictures too! I love the top, but I wonder if it needs something to "break it up" a little more? A layer or an accessory or something? Anyway, with the blazer its fantastic! Very professional and chic! :)

  26. I feel your pain!! So many mornings I'd like to punch my camera in the face... well, if my camera had a face. But I digress.

That shirt is nothing short of amazing. Details around necklines always draw me in and I wish wish wish I could wear a turtleneck. but I'll leave that kind of awesome to you.
