Daily MelWear: Teal and Red

I feel like I should just make this a Wordless Wednesday post. I still really don't have much to say and that's entirely unlike me. Usually I spout off TMI.

Hmmm...well I like this dress. We're not allowed to wear anything sleeveless and I typically layer a cardigan or something over it, so I decided to change it up by layering a shirt underneath this time. Teal and red make me happy so the belt and shoes were easy additions.

Oooh, have I talked about my daughter starting VPK? She's having a BLAST and has gotten great reports every single day. She's in her third week and doing really well. Last week towards the end of the week, she started to have some issues crying and not wanting to stay. Let me tell you, dropping her off and hearing her cry, "I want my mommy!" is not a pleasant way to go. Well, a very good friend came up with the brilliant idea to give her a watch so that she can see the hour hand move from 9 to 12, so she'd see the closer it gets to 12, the closer we are to picking her up. I went out and bought her a watch that very day, gave it to her after school and told her how to watch the hour hand.

Seriously, brilliant. I asked her dad how she did this morning, and he told me she said she wasn't scared because she knew when both of the hands were on the 12, he was coming to get her.  And she went right into her classroom with no problem!

I'm so proud of how well she's doing and of all the glowing reports she gets every day. I love that little girl.

There now. That was more words than yesterday.

Yay for Wednesday! The week is half over! I truly, honestly, wholeheartedly, cannot wait for this weekend.

Can't. Wait.

Have a great day, y'all!

Today's outfit:

  1. So glad you got your little girl sorted out. There is nothing worse than leaving them when they are not happy. My little girl starts school tommorrow, so I have my fingers crossed there will be no tears (from me that is!)

I love the red teal combination in your outfit, very pretty and professional.

  2. Leaving when kid is crying is sad. Did you get her a hand clock?

meiejutud - yes, it's a hand watch and the hour hand is a different color so it's easier for her to watch. It's so cute and she loves it!

  7. Those early school years with my daughter were tough...I think she cried every day. But, the good news is...it does get better!! I like the teal, but this whole outfit would be amazing with a crisp, white, tailored collared shirt!! I can see it on you and it would be a five star professional look and take what you have here up a notch. You are so cute and look great as usual!!

  9. Your daughter is just so smart! And I bet after about 5 minutes of school she doesn't even look at the watch, since she probably gets so engrossed in the fun and games!
I've been lazing around trying to think of something to wear today - I think I'll try for your red and teal!

You, as usual, look cute today! More teal and red is good! I need to try that combo again and be a little bit more daring with it next time.

  13. Red and teal is my favorite favorite favorite combo and you look great in it! I bet that was heartbreaking to have her be so sad at school. I'll have to mentally file the watch trick away for later! Right now we're counting days in "sleeps". So Grandma and Papa Don are coming over in 3 "sleeps". She loves knowing when stuff is going to happen!

  18. You look great! I love the red and teal together. I would never think to combine those colors, but they look amazing.

I'm glad to hear about the watch idea for your daughter. I'm also glad that she's learning how to read a watch with hands. I teach high school and so many of my students don't know how to read a clock that isn't digital, it's crazy.

  23. Awwww, Melissa! This is so sweet! I'm actually a little choked up after reading this (just imagining a mini-you looking at her little wrist and smiling contently knowing that everything will be okay when both hands are at the 12!). There's a story that I read to P before bed called "Llama Llama Red Pajama"...the baby llama gets scared when his mom leaves him after tucking him into bed, but his mom later reassures him that although she may not be near, she is always "there" with him. Oh! And have you ever read "The Kissing Hand"? It's a first-day-of-school story, but I'm sure it would be applicable at any time!

And I really like your necklace - thinking about making something similar)

  25. That is really clever! And it must feel so empowering to her to know what's happening and feel like she's involved! Well done good mom!

  26. According to Real Simple, teal and turquoise is the color for Fall. I wish the style council would get together and just assign one color. Anyways, I love the pairing of the teal and black dress. That red belt is a great pop of color.

  27. I'm still always so surprised at how versatile teal is, and I really shouldn't be, because it honestly looks fantastic with basically every. other. color. in the world :)

That watch suggestion was such a great idea...I'm glad your daughter is doing such a great job adjusting to school!
