So, here's a sad story. I don't have HBO. {I know, it's really not all that sad.} That has made it so that I can't watch Mad Men. In fact, I'd never seen any of them until about a month ago when the first season popped up on Netflix. Oh, happy day!
I've watched a ton of them already and I'm hooked. I hope Netflix keeps up with them. Or I'll be sad.
Yay pockets!!! |
Anyway, this may not be entirely Mad Men inspired, but it's what I thought of when I saw this dress. I really love the silhouette, the color, the simplicity, the sleeves, the length, everything about this dress makes me feel good. And...POCKETS! Not to mention that my boss said I look nice. So if she approves, I'm a happy girl.
This is what I wore last night to our board meeting. Normally I do wear a blazer as well but I figured the dress is professional enough on its own, especially considering I'm typically the only one wearing a blazer anyway.
I also don't usually wear hose, but these were sent to me from Hanes Hosiery to test out on one of my busy days, and technically our dress code requires hose for "business professional" attire (which is what I'm supposed to wear on board meeting days). My issue with hose is that it's normally very uncomfortable and it snags and runs so easily!
I have to admit that these have been great! They're comfortable and they're not too warm at all. They've been fantastic! I do have to admit that although they were perfect all day long, they did have some runs in them by the time I came home after our board meeting. It was a really long day, though...
The lovely Hanes peeps have given me a few extras for a giveaway too! So be on the lookout for that. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to post that giveaway on the blog or if I'm going to make it a Facebook one. Decisions, decisions...
Have a happy Wednesday, friends!

That's so weird - I think Netflix Canada has had Mad Men for MONTHS! And I think we even have the second, and possibly the third on there too! But this is a great Mad Men dress... I'm so glad you AND your boss love it, and can't wait to see what you can do with it!
ReplyDelete(And I hope you scheduled this post - it's, what, 2:30 am in FL? You need sleep! :D)
Oh that is totally a Mad Men Inspired dress...very much a dress that we'd see on Joan! Mad Men is actually on AMC, so hopefully it is part of your basic cable package! I am a huge fan of that show I own every season on DVD. I dream of Don, oh is he handsome! And I am mad that Season 5 is not debuting until early 2012! Usually it is around this time of the year...this constitutes as cruel and unusual punishment
ReplyDeleteSo sleek and chic! I've never watched Mad Men. I've been into the whole TrueBlood thing, but otherwise have stuck with the new episodes of Project Runway and Futurama (*nerd*).
ReplyDeleteLove the dress on you. It looks fantastic. And yes very professional. I think the hose elevates the look. Congrats on getting the trial pair and the giveaway!
You look gorgeous. The cut and color are AMAZING on you.
ReplyDeleteJenn
Stunning! You look simply stunning. This is hands down my favorite outfit of yours.
ReplyDeleteRed is your color girl....this dress is amazing on you :) I've never seen an episode of Mad Men, but have heard it's great!
ReplyDeleteI don't have cable either and had to get al of my Mad Men fix through Netflix (I think they have all of them now)! Love that show and I can't wait for the next season---though I'll have to wait even longer for it to arrive on Netflix! :)
ReplyDeletethis dress is fantastic on you! The silhouette is so flattering and I love the simple jewelry you added. Perfect!
Ooh! You look fantastic! The gold accents and the little chain belt in the front are super. This is a really nice dress on you! Red is definitely your color!
ReplyDeleteI don't have HBO either, so don't feel bad!
Yup, definitely a Joan dress! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOoh I love that dress!! Looks great on you!
ReplyDeletehaven't seen mad men either but i see what you were going for. i LOVE the metal belted detail. it cinches at the waist and makes you look super shapely without making you look too "sucked in". and kudos for getting the bosses approval!
ReplyDeleteRed is your color it looks great on you. when the boss approve you outfit then you know its going to be a good day.

Mel - Red looks amazing on you. I think this is a personal favorite outfit of yours. So chic and totally Mad Men-esque. - Katy
ReplyDeleteoh, I love mad men - I don't have cable at home, so I always bought the seasons on DVD...but now that I live with my boyfriend, we have cable, AND my boyfriend somehow convinced DirecTV to wait to start our three free months of premium channels, so I'll actually get to watch MM as it airs. I'm so excited! (and, did you know Jon Hamm (Don Draper) is a Mizzou alumn? All the more reason for me to like him! He even did a Mizzou commericial for us last year that aired during our football games)
ReplyDeleteI don't have HBO either, so Netflix is my Mad Men key too. Love this look on you. Red is a nice color for you.
ReplyDeleteLove love love that dress. I have been wanting to get one in red because it's one of my favorite colors and this is making me drool!
ReplyDeleteYou look hot and professional! I'm just always leery about wearing bright colors in super professional situations, but I don't have to worry about that so much anymore. You could also wear this dress to an evening Christmas party, hot Valentine's Day date. Those shoes set it off too!

This is one of the prettiest dresses you've ever featured. You look like the Boss! :)
ReplyDeleteOoooooo This dress is amazing. And I love how you didn't really try and tone it down or anything. Seriously looks SOOOOO good.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE pantyhose. I live in them. I wear them all the time, mostly because my legs are SOOO pale white. But I even wear them with pants. I like how TUCKED in they make me look. It helps complete the look, you know?
You are looking hot in that dress!! I bet you love the built in belt!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great dress! The color and cut look perfect on you. The simple styling looks great...love the black hose and shoes..it finishes the look.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Charise on the panty hose issue. I have the same "white legs" and I like the finished feel of panty hose. I've heard they are coming back in style...I hope so! I don't the bare leg look is a good one with a dressy dress....it looks less professional, in my opinion.
Hello gorgeous! This dress is beautiful and you look beautiful in it! Definitely didn't need a blazer to top it off...the dress shines on it's own. And I love the look w/the hose...super classy.
ReplyDeleteHave I mentioned before how awesome you look in red? It's such a gorgeous color on you! And I think it was a wise move to skip the blazer, at least the first time you wore the dress. It's kind of too pretty to cover up :)
ReplyDeleteIt's totally Mad Men inspired! You look beautiful in red!
ReplyDeleteI don't have HBO either, but my husband and I ended up buying the first two seasons to watch. We watched about five episodes and then we gave away the seasons. Yes! Gave them away! We just weren't that interested. I don't have time to get into a new show and he likes sci-fi more than anything. :)
The funny thing is, HBO actually rejected Mad Men 4 years ago (how one could say no to Matthew Weiner is beyond me). AMC said yes and since then, it's been one of the major players (plus, I think it comes in basic cable packages). So maybe you've had it all along? They also played reruns on Bravo for a while.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you look very Joan (Holloway) Harris! Simply amazing.
Oh lady, you look fantastic in that dress!
ReplyDeleteMEL!! MAD MEN LOVE. That show is so great and you are spot on with the dress style. Va, va, voom and classy, too. I often have a hard time with red. You wear it well, ma' dear. Also, the Hubs and I were behind on Mad Men because we haven't had cable in forever and just found out that Netflix added the first four seasons on Netflix streaming. SO. HAPPY. Now we can catch up.
ReplyDeleteThis dress rocks! But it's more like you rock in it! You look sexy and sassy and professional! Perfect Mad Mel dress!
ReplyDeleteYou guys, thank you SO much for all of your sweet comments! I've replied directly to those of you that I can when there's an email reply attached but I really wanted to thank all of you.
ReplyDeleteThis dress might be my new favorite! :)
Gorgeous dress! As far as I know, Mad Men is not on HBO, it's on AMC, a channel you might have? ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely smokin' hot! OH MY GOSH!!! Wear this all the time. And more.
ReplyDeleteWOW! You look amazing. Everything about this, works. And you crack me up every time you throw you foot in the air!

Ok...forget the comment that I just made on the last post a couple of minutes ago...THIS is one of your best!!
ReplyDeleteYou've actually left me kind of speechless. You look beautiful. Simply put. I never thought that I would agree with your boss and her antiquated outlook on style, but she was right!!!!
And red is definitely your color!
(Ok, maybe I wasn't THAT speechless!) ;)
Such a lovely dress with vintage feel) Love the color and the chain on the waist, the sleeves and the pockets. You look amazing <3
