I love this skirt. A lot. I love the A-line shape of it, the demure length, the silky material, the subtle pattern, and the gorgeous shade of red. Not to mention the fact that it was a Salvation Army find!
What I don't love is the quandary I'm having in finding different ways to style it! I'm usually good with color combos but this shade of red, especially with the pattern involved, poses a challenge for me. I felt like I needed to wear something a little understated this time because of our board meeting, but if anyone has other ideas on how to style this pretty thing up, I'm all ears!
Hope you're having a great week, friends!
Today's outfit:
Skirt: Salvation Army
Black Tank: Kohl's
Black Jacket: Ross
Black Belt: Charlotte Russe? I can't remember
Black Heels: Target
Necklace: Wal-Mart
love the outfit you're wearing. the skirt is simply gorgeous!

Very pretty! That skirt is a gorgeous shade of red! Other combos you could try are turquoise/teal or even pink!
ReplyDeleteMelissa, you look absolutely breathtaking in this skirt. Such a classic styling with the jeweled belt and sophisticated heels. For more work looks, I would try it with cream.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the weekend I think teal could be gorgeous, just like Tara suggests!
The cut of that skirt is perfect. I love those style jackets on you too! I wonder how good they'll look on me. Maybe I'll try finding one to try on

I love the skirt! I could see it looking really fabulous with a silver or gold top at a holiday party. As for work, I agree with Tara that teal would look phenomenal with it.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great the way you styled it already! It is such a beautiful color and the length and cut look great on you.
ReplyDeleteBut...maybe when you are feeling a little more daring, add some animal print to it?
I am so jealous of your gorgeous red skirt! I have been searching for a red skirt forever and have yet to find one that I like.
ReplyDeleteI have seen that shade of red paired with a bright/hot pink and it looked great together. I would not have paired those two colors on my own...but seeing them styled that way on a blog...realize they look really good together.
ReplyDeleteI love this shade with grey - even though it's definitely more of a Fall look but hey, with back to school sales going on Fall is just around the corner!
ReplyDeleteWhat if you paired it with the black and white floral blazer that you have? Or what about a blue blouse and cardi or blazer? I don't know...but I think that the red skirt could handle another strong color with it. :) Or - you know - a crisp white blouse would look AWESOME with this! Sorry if I'm not so creative today!
ReplyDeleteI also think you look really great today.
Calling Kish, Calling Kish!! ;) I bet she'll have a few ideas!
ReplyDeleteOf course, it's gorgeous with the black! Do you have a red and black multicolored shirt? Maybe you could wear that and it could still be somewhat toned down... If you want to go for WOW, you could pair it with a dressy teal or turquoise top, a yellow one, or a multi colored top that incorporates a few of those colors.
Giiiirl, everyone's right with the teal/turquoise! Red and turquoise is one of my favorite combos, but also try deep purple for a rich jewel tone combo!
ReplyDeleteLoooove the teal and red combo! One of my favorites. Another good one is pale blue or sky blue and red. Ooh! and khaki and red. I have a tannish/khaki jacket that goes really well with red. Oh, and olive green. Ok, I'm going to stop now :-)
ReplyDeleteWait? Where's your Satin Slayer? Dude, you're cute, but knock off the satin? ;)
ReplyDeleteChoke on your coffee dear...I'm here all day! ;)
Ha! Heather's comment above cracked me up...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you didn't listen to the satin slayer! I love this skirt. J Crew had a gorgeous red and pink color combination outfit in their last catalog, and I absolutely think you should copy it for this skirt. It was beautiful.
Thats a pretty skirt! I love the color, especially paired with black.
ReplyDeleteI think I have a necklace like yours!, except in green.
Stunning skirt! I don't know what else I would have done differently!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous here! How about wearing it with something lighter on top - like white or gray?
ReplyDeleteI think that the skirt would look cute with a grey sweater once the weather gets a little cooler.
ReplyDeleteThat skirt will be prefect for the holiday season. I can never find anything at the salvation army.
ReplyDeleteTry pairing it with white, tan, grey! Grey is wonderful for lightening things up. That skirt has a gorgeous shape. Those pumps have got to be the most perfect black pump.
ReplyDeleteOh! Navy and white stripes! Cream! Sorry ideas hitting me a million miles a minute.
ReplyDeleteI did purple and orange today, but I think the right shade of purple would go with that red! I love wearing something that is usually saved for evening during the day, it makes me feel glamorous!
ReplyDeleteI really like this skirt on you. You rocked it girl! Looking lovely as usual.
ReplyDeleteAhahahaha!!!! Tiffany... =)
ReplyDeleteBefore I comment on your skirt, Melissa, I have to (once again) comment on how ridiculously tiny your waist is....argh!!!
Ok. So now that I got that little bit of jealousy off my chest....you look great! The skirt, with it's subtle print, is so pretty! I can see you wearing it with the blue cropped jacket and black/white striped tee that you wore on June 26 (I think?). And I think the same striped tee underneath your chambray shirt could work with this skirt. Maybe?
Oh! And you have this really pretty blousy yellow top (worn some time in early June) that you could pair with this skirt and a wide brown belt (or a skinny teal/turquoise one). I agree with some of the others about possible color combinations with teal, turquoise, and yellow. I'm going to throw orange into that mix...! Doesn't hurt to try?
And one last thing. I don't know if you own a denim jacket, but pairing the skirt with a simple white tee and a denim jacket with flat sandals could be cute, too. (Or, again, with the black/white striped tee under the jacket.)
Ok. Done! Sorry! Sorry I took up so much space!
