Daily MelWear: Maximum Stripes, Minimum Price

Hey, that title rhymes!

Kind of.

Sort of.

But not really.

I'm not nearly as clever as I'd like to think. But I make myself laugh, so I guess there's something to be said for that.

I'm not sure how I feel about this skirt yet. It was a whopping $5 at Forever 21, so I snagged it. We'll see how often I end up wearing it.

I still feel like I need a change. A hair cut may happen this weekend. But I also feel like I need to do something else. Any suggestions?

Today's outfit:
Skirt: Forever 21
Blouse: Charlotte Russe
Belt: Stein Mart (came with a blazer)
Heels: Target

  2. I really like the skirt...I am so into stripes lately and it fits you really well plus you cannot beat a price tag of 5 dollars!!

  3. I've been loving long, striped skirts, and this one is no exception! It looks fab on you lady :)

  4. That skirt looks amazing on you, and what a deal! I bet you'll get lots of wear out of it. The whole outfit is fabulous, and I love those shoes!

  5. I love finding stuff for $5! So much less fear when trying something slightly outside a comfort range!

  6. Trying new styles out of your normal comfort zone IS change - so good on you! I know what you mean about feeling like stuck in a style rut though, I kind of feel the same way - maybe try experimenting with a new 'do or some colors or pieces you don't normally gravitate to?

  7. $5 is a bargain for such a cool skirt! I bet you could even do the whole skirt as a dress thing with it! I've been feeling restless too with my hair. I already have an appointment booked for BIG CHANGE in Sept but last night I couldn't handle it anymore so I cut my bangs. We'll see what it looks like in the light of day!

  9. I really like the cut of that skirt with the button up. I wouldn't think they would pair so well but they just work beautifully! I would say if you aren't sure about cutting your hair you can always go makeup shopping in the wet n wild section. Nothing changes your look faster than a new style of makeup like a cat eye or a bright lipstick. With cheap stuff you can try itout and if you don't like it, then move on. Can't wait to see what you do.

  10. I like the skirt. I used to have something similar like that - no striped but a cute cut like that and I wore the heck out of that skirt. Just got rid of it recently because I finally couldn't keep it up anymore. It WAS a size 20 skirt after all. I guess that's a good thing, but I DO miss that skirt. I don't know that I have ever been into a Forever 21, though. I have seen them...hmmm...maybe next time I see one I will head in.

  11. Oooh, I just LOVE the bow belt! And the purple with the stripes.

Hmmm... a change? Maybe do something drastic with the hair? And go for a mani & pedi while you're at it!

  12. I really like that skirt Mel! It's perfect with that belt or any other wide belt.

  13. Lovely skirt and for only $5? That is a great bargain! SO what are you thinking of in terms of a change? I got a makeover from Smashbox a few weeks ago and that got me out of a cosmetic rut! But I think if you feel like a haircut would help you should totally go for it! I contemplating on a bob for fall, Victoria Beckham style..have had that cut before and have a strange urge to cut my hair again! LOL! This too shall pass...hopefully!

  15. Ooh! I really like this outfit. The skirt is a style I have not seen you wear, but you look great! The bow belt makes it all tie together :)

Sometimes change can be a good thing, even if it's just something small like getting your hair cut. Also, just switching up my daily routine and getting outside, or blowing bubbles, or roller skating, acting like a kid really makes a difference :)

  16. That skirt looks fabulous on you!! Love how you anchored it with the solid top!! Sometimes it is fun to wear something outside your comfort zone.

  17. Cute skirt and for $5! You can't go wrong! I felt like I needed a change a few months ago and did get my hair cut pretty short. I was nervous because my hair hadn't been that short in a long time, but it was just what I needed.

  18. I am absolutely convinced that you need a mini-vacation. And it can be as mini as you need it to be...sometimes a vacation day (or *coughfakesickdaycough*...what? who said that?), where you just spend the day by yourself at the park/coffee shop/library/what have you can go a long way in kind of resetting things.

Or maybe a long weekend in Atlanta would help? I mean, come on...it's only an 8 hour drive or something :)

PS: love this skirt so much!!

  20. Sweetie, you are cute, but you need to step away from the satin shirts.

  21. That skirt is so fun and I love it with the purple. I think you would look so chic with a should length layered bob (kind of like Keely's before she cut it up to her chin). Why not see about making an appointment with a makeup counter? Splurge on a lipstick or other key piece of make up you'd wear frequently, but enjoy the personalized attention.

  22. I am IN LOVE with that skirt! And for five bucks, you can't go wrong. You're rocking it! As for change, a haircut and a pedicure does it for me. That or getting my eyebrows threaded.

  23. I adore you and your blog. Keep up the amazing work. You seem such a positive force for good. :>)

Here's what I think - where it on the weekends with a t-shirt - but consider not wearing it to work: a bit too trendy and casual.

I think you always look AMAZING in dark bottoms - skirts that are just above your knees - and I really think you look great when you layers tops - I like the way you use color.

Keep on keepin' on! And, as you know, this is only one professionalista's opinion.
