Daily MelWear: Name That Color - Black or Brown?

Wow, it was NICE to take a day off during the week from posting an outfit so that Cara could be spotlighted for the day! Thanks for reading and commenting on the new Proper Professional feature. It was fun to get everything organized and I'm sure it'll be more fun to read all of the guest posts! I'm hoping this will become a permanent fixture around here.

Now for today's outfit. This is another suit that my aunt sent to me and she says it's brown. Honestly when I opened the two out of three boxes, I assumed the "brown suit" she referred to would be in the third box because this one seemed black to me. I just can't tell. When I hold it up to something true black then yes, it seems brown. But just on its own? Could go either way.

Since I couldn't decide, I opted to accessorize with leopard heels and a leopard belt that have both black and brown in them. Technically animal prints aren't allowed in our dress code but I thought these might be okay since they're so subtle. I did bring different shoes to wear if my boss asks me to change and this belt is reversible to a solid brown as well. Just in case. And look! No "bling." :)

Tonight is one of our bi-monthly board meetings so I also brought hose (again, just in case...but if no one mentions it, I might skip 'em because seriously, it's 91 degrees today!) and when I add the blazer, I'll just switch the belt on top of that instead. Viola!

Hope you all have a fabulous Tuesday!

Today's outfit:
Brown Skirt Suit: From my aunt
Teal Blouse: Charlotte Russe
Leopard Belt: Wal-Mart
Leopard Heels: Payless

  1. I threatened it in to submission.

Anyway, I have a pair of pants that color too. I sometimes wear brown with them, sometimes black. But brown tends to look best.

You should call the color Brack. It'll take over the world and you'll be a bazillionaire.

And then you can share the wealth with me. :)

  2. It does seem like a very very dark brown. It does appear to be black to me, like it does you. And I don't think the animal print is garish by any means, it is indeed very subtle. But, its good that you have backup options, just in case.

I love those shoes, of course.

And hey, just so you know...something is up with your background on your page.....

  5. It looks black in the pictures, but you never know. I hate when I can't tell what color something is.

  10. It looks black to me, but my monitor doesn't 'read' dark colors in any kind of subtlety. I love the leopard belt and shoes! Sneaky animal prints.

  12. Yuck--- 91 degrees? What happened to spring?

Isn't it nice that your skirt could be paired with black OR brown? That's like having two different skirts! :)

  13. These heels are so pretty! I also like the cut of your skirt. I used to have a denim skirt in that cut and it accentuated curves like no other... :)

I can't tell if your skirt is black or brown. But I do have items like that that could go either way...

  14. The suit looks black from your photos, but the great thing about items like this is you can wear them as either color!

I loved your Proper Professional feature yesterday. Can't wait to see next week's installment!

  15. I love colours that can be worn either way - I have a striped shirt (navy vs. black)! I'd love to see how the colour would read if you wore it with brown and black!

  16. I'm totally loving that teal top! Have one very similar in pink from H&M a few years back. I have a pair of pants that could either be brown or black - I normally wear metallic shoes with them, ha!

  18. I would never know...I stink at distinguishing the two...and blue...so I usually just chunk 'em all together and call it a day.

  23. I tend to pick up lots of navy that is almost black and then wonder why I can't pair it with my two black work skirts. I love the shoes and the belt together. Brilliant bringing a reversible belt!

  24. I love how you've matched the shoes and belt! Very cute. I agree with Tara, I like how creative you're being with the dresscode.

  25. Super cute!! The belt and shoes are just perfect for this too! Oh, and I love that top! Hrm, it looks black to me, but my lighting and screen just might not be showing it right. But hey, either way, it's a neutral, right? :)

  26. Hose, yuck. That's got to be classifed as torture at this point. Love the combo of neutrals with the bright color. Way to stick it to the awesome dress code by still having plenty of personality in your look!

  27. I just adore the flare of that skirt! Then the blouse gives such a great pop of color to the outfit.
