Daily MelWear: Pink and Green

First of all, thank you so much for your comments and encouragement yesterday, on the blog and through Facebook.  On a day when I was feeling blah, you all made me feel a lot better.  Thanks!!!

These two pieces, the skirt and the t-shirt, have proven to be two of the most difficult items for me to style.  They'd probably be incredibly easy to some other women but for me...not so much.

The skirt is a hand-me-down from a co-worker.  She bought it from a thrift store and never wore it, so she asked if I wanted it.  I really love the detail on the bottom hem of the skirt, it makes me feel so mature and classy! The t-shirt was a birthday gift from another co-worker, the same one who gave me the necklace and earrings that I wear a whole lot.

The skirt is difficult because of the texture and the shade of green.  I feel a little bit boring and predictable pairing it with a cream top but seriously, I've got nothin' better. Originally I was going to wear a fuschia cardigan belted over top but when I saw the shirt and skirt alone, I kind of liked the silhouette so I left it alone. I threw on the pink necklace and earrings in hopes of adding a little more color and interest since I didn't wear the cardigan. Did it work?
I find the shirt difficult because it's blousy and doesn't really do anything to flatter my shape, but I really like the neckline detail and the fact that it's your basic white/cream tee.  Plus it's just comfy.

I also had on a cream belt over the skirt but the shade didn't really go with my shoes, so that went away. The blazer is more just in case my office is unbearably cold.  Hopefully I can use my space heater and not have to wear it.

So here I am!  Today's outfit:

Green Skirt: Hand-me-down from co-worker

T-Shirt: Gift from another co-worker

Tan Blazer: Thrifted (Goodwill Boutique, I think)

Nude Kitten Heels: Target

Pink Necklace and Earrings: Beya

  1. I need to go shopping. Clearly, this being a professor thing requires better clothes than I currently wear. Although, there is something to be said for creating an atmosphere of casualness. ;)

  2. Check out Tres Trippy's blog entry on how she styled her skirt. I think the color is similar to yours so this might help give you another idea of how to style it.
